Darn, missed the notation and thought I was getting Unabridged. Do NOT buy this one; the cuts the producers made in this beautiful story just ruin it!
Richard Armitage - what a fantastic narrator - he made it most enjoyable to listen to
Sylvester - seems a bit like Hugh Grant in that he could be a bit foppish but with a good heart!
Caught myself giggling numerous times - cant wait to listen to it again. One of those books that I will listen to more than once.
I feel cheated! I had read this story many, many years ago and loved it. With the abridged version I feel like I was being shown the lives of these people, but they were only shadows of the real characters with no personality or substance. If you want a 'trashy' romance then this is for you - but if you want to be able to immerse yourself into the romance of the story, the lives of the characters and feel them come to life - dont' bother! Wait for the unabridged version to come out - it is a 5 star listen.
I bought this only because Richard Armitage was the narrator. I love his work and was excited to hear him read this. I was blown away by the number of voices he creates for all the characters. I wasn't expecting that, but he's wonderful. This version is abridged so it's not ideal, but it's definitely worth it just to hear Armitage's performance.

Not impressed with this author, which is a shame since I enjoyed listening to Richard Armitage's voice. I guess he could read the list of ingredients off the back of a cereal box and it would be nice to listen too.
I really enjoyed the growth in the characters, in humour, and authenticity and self-knowledge.
But, oh dear, this is one of my two favourite Georgette Heyer's, so I got very distressed, when, as a novice audible book buyer, I hadn't checked it was the full book. So I found lines of dialogue which made me laugh, or increased the depth and highlighted the nuances, simply skipped! very disconcerting.
No - the original is gets 10 stars!
I enjoyed listening to this with a male voice. The characters came alive and the sense of being in the moment and enjoying a regency tale was fun. Many of Heyer's stories give equal weight to the male's perspective of the plot and I enjoy the immersion into the era.
i really love this story! i wish it was unabridged though. Richard Armitage really gives a uncanny performance with the female voices! i was astounded at how well he portrays the women and Sylvester's voice was perfect! i always thought of what Sylvester's voice would be like as i was reading the book and Richard Armitage brings him to life!
The best parts of this book was left out. I would buy this again if they would make it unabridged! The author is wonderful, the narrator is great and if you want just a snippet...then buy this. But if you want the whole wonderful pie. AVOID.
This audiobook was one of the worst audiobooks through which I have tried to struggle! The abridgment was terrible, omitting the period details, the humor, and the flavor that make Georgette Heyer's books so much fun. The narrator didn't seem to ever get the "feel" of the book, and his reading didn't provide much distinction between the characters. The flow and tongue-in-cheek dialogue inflections were completely lacking. Don't bother to add this one to your library! See if you can find the unabridged version that is available elsewhere.
