A nation lifted itself up by it's bootstraps. The military aspect was quite interesting.
When the car manufacture agreed.
I only can listen in short bursts.
The clarity in which the authors are able to isolate the qualities and ethos of the Israeli culture.
An explanable miracle
Ironically, Senor outlines many of the same qualities that helped 19th century America expand westward that were sadly later discarded with the advent of megacorporations in the late 20th century. Whether in commerce, research, the military or for the benefit of mankind the book hammers home the central theme....always question, "Is there a better way"?
The different aspects and unusual reasons why Israel became a Start-Up Nation
The title fits perfectly
Great book, especially if you have a link to Israel.
I read a lot and on most any subject!
This book provides useful information to help individuals, companies and nations be more innovative. However at times the book drags a bit especially when the author's drift away from talking about Israel and start talking about other nations.
This is an excellent audio experience. The facts are solid and the narrative gripping. Good audiobook for those who would like to know better the aspects that helped to build the technology of Israel.
Is the success of Israel???s business startups a case of ???Chutzpah??? (audacity, brazen nerve, courage, effrontery, incredible 'guts,' mettle, presumption topped off with a little (or large) touch of arrogance) or Davka (despite everything).
The authors of ???Startup Nation??? argue the case of chutzpah quite strongly, and they are right. The people of Israel have had to "make do" in a land with few natural resources, surrounded by hostile nations. Due, in part to this, have become the "go to" place for emerging technologies the computer, science, ecology, medicine, and a host of other fields.
But these successes are as much due to ???Davka??? (often defined as ???despite everything??? or ???just because you want me to disappear from the face of the earth - I will not??? emphasis on the last three words) - the insistence on surviving whatever is thrown at them and turning lemons (or the fruit of trees growing in salt water) into lemonade.
While the general media from around the world is not report the successes of Israeli technology to impact their nations, in many ways people the world daily touch products of the Israeli minds.
For any one who whats to understand the inner workings of how business and Jewish culture works in the business marketplace in Israel this is the book you must read. Even the Govt of Israel are giving this book out to the business community, VC's and any one interested in start up companies need to read this book. Learn what drives the amazing innovation coming out of Israel today.
Senor and Singer do a great job weaving together the threads, that in combination, resulted in the rapid growth of Israel's technology based economy. Narration is solid.
I must admit that reading this book has made me look at my home country through another set of glass. Some things that I have not even been aware of. Very interesting and profound observations on the Israeli people, that are very much true in the macro. I lacked the view in the micro, on the day-to-day lives, on the school education, and on the things that make us who we are, not just outliers. Nonetheless, so ,any accurate conclusions that have made me quite surprised that one from the outside could get. Really good!
