This is the kind of book you don't want to finish. Endearing yet sharp characters, great moments, and the delicious feeling of getting mixed up in a whole new setting, as the dead become allies and friends. Wonderful book. Very well read, too.
Fun Gaiman mythology
I have heard the author read some of this live and this reading was wonderful. Gaiman's characters have insight and a humanity that is easy to identify with - regardless of the strange situations in which they find themselves...
Gentle Inviting Warm
I thought my son might like this. I had a sneaky listen to check it out and couldn't stop listening! While there are some traditional themes (no spoilers, but think graveyard), they are handled in a light, original and very sympathetic way. Very well produced. Well written, witty, perfectly narrated, great music and a raft of rich characters that are easy to relate to - this quirky story has something for everyone.
not read the print version but, a professional reader gets the essence of the sentence in his or her tone before the sentence is over , it also lets me get away in my mind as in when i was young my mommy read me stores and it was enjoyebel
not any one to note over all
the writer has put down an in-depth view of a boy growing up and his experience of that growing up mixed with likable monsters. just enjoyable
Neil Gaiman has just become the benchmark by which all my other narrators will be judged by. The narration in this book is brilliant, the tempo, the rhythm, the timbre, everything about his reading ebbed and flowed with the book. I've never heard a book read with such mastery.
The storyline was excellent, even though it was probably pitched more towards the younger readers, I fully enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to my kids listening to it as well. So many books I've enjoyed have been rather age-specific, but this one has appeal over a large range of ages. My 7 year-old will enjoy this book just as much as I did.
entertaining, well written and fun
Lots of it but the most memorable was the ending, and I don't want to spoil it for anyone.
He brings great emotion to the charactors.
Yes kept sitting in the car in the garage so I could listen to the end of a chapter.
Would highly recommend. Will go looking for this author again.
A mix of fantasy, black humor, you need to get use to it, but it gets somehow funny. Overall story is week however, I wish it was more advanced.
I've not read the print version, but now I wish I had the capacity to hear more of Gaiman's books read by him. There was so much to this that was just.. brilliant.
What book of Gaiman's is like anything else?
All of them? Is that an answer?
I mean that seriously, because he brought all of them to life. Even to one of their voices changing accent slightly when the story called for it. But slightly, easy to miss, and yet it was countless little touches like this that made it so bloody brilliant. Every voice just /was/ that character. Beyond simply being associated, the tone, the pacing, the essence of it matched the essence of the character.
Yes, yes there was. Several in fact through it. I had goosebumps in parts, and wet eyes in others.
Please listen to this book. It is masterfully written, and told even better. It got me into audiobooks in a big way because I knew what was possible in the form.
I enjoy the style of Mr Gaiman. He's humour hit's the spot for me. It's a wee bit on the dark side and that's the way I like it.
The story was also a jewel of storytelling and the characters interesting.
All in all a very good book.
Yes as I allways miss details the first time.
The whole concept of the tale.
His amazing accent.
