Loved this book. I like that Janine kept with true 'faerie tale ' tradition and put a wickedly erotic spin on already dark stories. I appreciated the originality and thought the narrator did a great job. Would love to hear more from the author and narrator.
Will definitely listen again. The descriptions are lush and the stories original. It is not romance in a soft, conventional sense, but concerned a great deal with the shifting of power. Unlike other fiction exploring themes of dominance and submission, it isn't trapped in leather and studs, but beautifully garbed in rich natural settings and sensual experiences. The perspective is often delightfully unusual, such as "Sacrifices," a myth retold from the Gorgon's point-of-view. The final narrative poignantly describes the human experience in an extremely moving metaphor, touching something beyond simple fiction-to-get-off-to. I'll be looking for more work by this author.
I believe a story should be interesting enough to absorb me, not bore me. I live reality daily. And many times reality is brutal. So I look for a book that makes me forget. It has to absorb me into the pages. Kind of like going on a mini vacation. I like stories that make me laugh. I like stories that make me look for the next episode.
I thought this book was not only bizzare, but unbelievably bad as well. I was distubed by the images this author painted. Therapy might help. I would not reccommend this book to anyone seeking fun and adventure.
I was very disappointed in this audio book. When I chose it, I did not listen to the audio sample. That was my fault and it will not happen again. I picked this book because of the publisher's summary and it received great reviews from the few listeners who wrote reviews.
The wording was very annoying for me. Due to the differences in pronunciation and jargon between the UK and USA, I spent many moments getting pissed off about words like 'knickers' and 'herbs'. In the USA, the 'h' in 'herbs' is SILENT. That wouldn't be a problem for listeners in the UK. The summary mentions nothing about the author being from the UK.
Even when I was actively trying to listen, the stories were mainly back ground noise. They did not entertain me. The endings were abrupt and I spent most of the time trying to figure out how the characters got from point A to point B. I know short stories aren't supposed to have all of the details expected from a full length novel, but the story should still flow smoothly.
I would not recommend this audio book.
