"Lenny the voice"
An entertaining performance from Lenny Henry man of a thousand voices. Good story well told if anything it was too long.
"A brilliant read, brilliantly read."
It has to be among my favourites, Lenny Henry really brought it to life.
I really enjoyed the character of Spider and the journey he went on as a person.
The range of voices was superb (apart from Rosie, I wasn't much sold on her voice) but the old ladies were particularly well voiced.
Some parts made me smile a lot. There weren't many stand out moments but it was very enjoyable all the same. The climax was very satisfying.
An enjoyable story that grows from something seemingly simplistic into a well woven web (see what I did there!) of interlocking stories.
"I love this book."
I've been a Neil Gaiman fan for years and have already read this book, however, having Lenny Henry read it is perfect. Only he could do the characters voices justice and it makes listening to this an absolute joy.
"Lenny Henry's performance shines"
I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan and have read nearly everything he's published. I love his work so much that I've wanted to experience my favourites again in audio book form. Some audio books really fall flat, but the Neil Gaiman ones have been excellent so far. After listening to the brilliant audio version of American Gods I just had to give Anansi Boys a go. Lenny Henry shines in his performance of this book. Lenny Henry's vocal agility with different voices and the natural ease and rhythm he brings to the Caribbean accents in the book make him an inspired and appropriate choice as narrator. I absolutely loved it! This one will be listened to again and again.
Really good book. Fantastic made ordinary (well not ordinary, but written as if what happened might happen, in an unusual kind of way - well, I know what I mean!!). I didn't know Lenny Henry could read so well. His voices were superb. It was like listening to a play. I will definitely look for books that he is reading in the future.
Lenny Henry's narration is great. His character voices bring the book alive. Really lifted my journeys to and fro work every day.
"a great story fantastically narrated"
Hearing Lenny Henry narrate was a real treat. the story has familiar Gaiman elements, it had me giggling, worried, badly and tense.
"Best audio book I've ever heard"
Absolutely flipping brilliant!
Lenny Henry's reading of it. I've not been a huge fan of his over the years but he totally blew me away with his reading of this.
All of them - so beautifully bought to life by Lenny Henry.
Yes - made me laugh and immersed in a wonderful world. Brilliant writing by Neil Gaiman.
Will not disappoint - do yourself a favour and download it now! :)
"fab as usual!"
i just love neil gaiman, so this book is fab. lenny henry is an amazing narrator
all of them for me, but anytime the old ladies get together it's funny
the voices, that caribbean twang that seems to slightly morph with every character but is always there, he's just a master at it
yes! and almost did
"Classic Gaimen brilliantly narrated"
Enchanting, entertaining and whimsical.
It's a brilliantly woven story told through intriguing and funny characters. You get caught up in their journey and become attached to them even those that you start the story disliking, a tale of love, murder magic and old time deities. Neil Gaimen really does live up to the hype.
Lenny Henry also does a fantastic job really bringing the story to life with his narration.
I listened to the whole thing over a weekend.
