"Great Story with Excellent Narration"
I have read the story before, as with most Gaiman works it is a really good read. This was only the second audiobook I have tried and was recommended to me by a freind, I am not usually a fan of Lenny Henry but his work here is brilliant, he really made the book come alive with his characters, especially his Graham Coates. Excellent book made even better by excellent narration.
I LOVED this book! It hooks you in with the wonderful anecdotes about Anansi and actually made me laugh so much that I could barely drive my car. It is clever, innocent and shows an intense love of story telling and such a great sense of interwoven metaphor that you can almost skip in and out of the over meaning without missing a beat. YOU MUST LISTEN TO THIS BOOK!!!!!
"Supernaturally funny business"
I really loved this audiobook. I do like Neil Gaiman's writing and also enjoyed "Stardust" as an audiobook, but this is even better, largely because of Lenny Henry's perfect narration. There are some laugh out loud one liners, some tensely dramatic moments and a very satisfying conclusion. Give it a try, and you too will find yourself talking to house spiders.
I love Neil Gaiman's work and because of this one of my biggest fears on downloading this was Lenny Henry's narration. I really needn't have worried. His characterisations are superb and really enthuse the story making each character believable and audibly different.
"The best audiobook I have ever heard"
It's a great story that much is for certain but Lenny Henry's narration brings it alive on so many levels.
I have listened to this book at least 3 times all the way through and have heard large chunks of it more times because my kids were obsessed by it.
"Lenny Henry reads really well"
I too was a bit worried when I saw Lenny Henry was the narrator, but there is really no need. He does the accents brilliantly and, I suspect, better than Neil would have, which is perhaps why he was asked.
The story is brilliant.
a superb story, told by a brilliant narrator. Gentle, funny, inventive, well-paced, vivid characters, a great blend of the real and supernatural.
I can't stand listening to Lenny Henry at all under normal circumstances - but he really brought this fantastic tale to life.
Downloading more Gaiman for another fix
Lenny Henry's reading of a very inventive story is superb. Better than anything Ricky Gervais has ever done.
Best audio book so far. Love Neil Gaiman and Lenny Henry's narration brings the book to life.
