The fact that it kept me guessing till the end.
Drew. She was so strong and real.
gave it more depth
yes, but read the unabridged addition and way to long to do that in.
I didn't like MORTAL FEAR. I have found many of Iles' books brilliant, extraordinarily well-researched, coherent and gripping (Black Cross, Spandau Phoenix, Blood Memory and Dead Sleep). While MORTAL FEAR had its moments, it wasn't as good as his other books (imo). Somehow the incestuous relationship underlying the serial killer's history didn't explain much of the killer's pathology except as the origin of his hemophilia and therefore the focus of his medical "research." Yes, Harper Cole (hero) is a commodities trader (I know a fair amount about commodities so was really looking forward to the book) but it explained nothing except how Harper earned a lot of money to get back his family's estate (which does reveal that Mr. Cole is a talented highly ethical person). EROS is well-designed credible and very interesting. I don't regret listening to MORTAL FEAR but I multi-tasked while reading this book (which I do in general) but I was only motivated to go back and listen again to those parts when I had no idea of what was happening. I expect more from Iles, which may be why I'm so negative about MF.
The reader killed this book for me. I could not stand to listen to him, and after trying to get thru the book, gave up after the second download. This book was a costly mistake!
I have read others by Greg Iles and will again.
This book was SO SLOW ... NOTHING HAPPENS. NOTHING. I just kept listening thinking surely something was going to happen. If you are a tech geek, you might like hearing about how computers operated in the 80's because that is ALL THEY TALK ABOUT, except sex chat on line ... all of which is just un-interesting. There is also a lot of "poor taste" comments and dialogue. I have read two others by Greg Iles, Black Cross (which was excellent) and Devil's Punchbowl (which was mediocre). I have another one by him ready to load ... I hope it's good ... if not, this will be my last Greg Iles book. I was very disappointed in this book ... so much so that I deleted it from my library with about 14 hours left to listen. I just couldn't do it ...
Do not waste your credit on this one. You will wish you hadn't.
There is nothing more entertaining than to listen to a book while doing chores. Always have one going.
this book has a great premise. Online sex. Although I enjoyed the book, I was tired of listening by the end. Finished but was not interested in the outcome. About 4 hrs. too long.
