The reader was incredible and dynamic! The story was a true classic indeed!
It's hard to separate the two because the characters and the story is so powerful.
The Count of course. Although seemingly resolute and fixed in his will, I like the change that happens in him towards the end. He experiences remorse and unexpectedly questions whether what he is doing is right after all.
Don't watch this movie. Read the book.
The Count of Monte Cristo is widely branded a tale of revenge, but it is also a story of love, charity, adventure and forgiveness. I loved it.
I would and have already recommended this to my friends and family. I enjoyed the movie version (2002) and had always wanted to read the book but was too busy for a sit down read. I was delighted to see I might be able to experience the story on Audible. The narrator is fabulous and the story is gripping. I did feel like the story ended too soon for what I was expecting (although it was like 50 hours) and maybe that was designed by the Author so there might be a sequel. However I was completely engaged to the very end and even though it didn't end exactly how I wanted, I really truly loved the story. The narrator, John Lee, did a terrific job with the characters voices and feelings and I will be looking for more stories narrated by him.
John Lee's voice inflection and ability to own so many characters was incredible! What a truly talented individual. To be able to go from Man to woman, from poor to rich and origin to origin made it facinating. Wonderful at accents and a great story teller.
Yes, however it was very lengthy and I found myself listening to it in the car, making myself late to work a few times....but it was well worth it!
John Lee, is a sublime narrator. His pronunciation perfect, his accent astounding. He brings Dumas, characters to life with a a reading that would be worthy of Dumas himself.
The Count of Monte Cristo of course.
I cannot say for I found them all so enjoyable.
I have recommended this book to everyone who asks! The narration is perfect, the story line is captivating and there are amazing life lessons to learn! I recounted the story each night to my kids and they all were dying to hear what was happening to the "winking Grandpa", Maximilian and the Count!
How John Lee makes this complicated story just flow off his tongue is beyond me. We've read it to our teenagers as part of a listening course. Although Alexandre Dumas' stories can get a bit long winded, they are always worth the wait and the brilliance of the characters and subplots in this novel kept me riveted to the very end.
Listening to the patient reintroduction with his former enemies keeps the tension high and the reader always filled with new information that just makes the story more intoxicating by the chapter.
This is my favorite novel and John Lee is one of my favorite narrators. This is my favorite narration by John Lee. He just makes it sound so effortless, easy, and entertaining. You never feel far from the story and often you feel as if you are right in the middle of it.
None of the TV series or movies do this masterful work any justice, but the multipart TV series did a much better job than I thought they would.
Alternate Tagline? That's a tough one and I honestly can't think of one that flows well with the complexity of the story.
If you want a story that will entertain you for HOURS and HOURS and help you shed the chaos of the day, then dive on in, you won't be disappointed.
Revenge is a dish best-served cold, in this case really, really cold. Edmond Dant??s takes twenty years or more to exact his revenge on the men who stole his fiancee, his happiness, and years of his life.
This is one of the longest audiobooks I've ever listened to. It took me over 3 months to finish, but the story and the narrator made me excited to listen every chance I got. Great book! Highly recommended.
The narrator brought this classic to life. He was spectacular. The story lagged at times, due to the fact it was written almost 200 years age and the use of language has changed. However, the narration was fabulous and brought the Count to life, as well as, every character.
I enjoyed this Audiobook. The story itself is well written and an intricately woven tale of revenge. The acting of this book was phenomenal. Close your eyes...(not while you're driving) and you can envision the characters with their costumes. I almost missed my exit a few times because I got caught up in the tale.
