I loved all the info and the author seems to have done his homework. The part that drove me crazy is all the religious points. It would have been an excellent book without all the useless God talk. Every time, and it was often, the author mentioned someone's religion, prayers, morals and quoting the bible, it just ruined it for me. Honestly, instead of mentioning the endless religious aspects, I would have rather he described bowel movements in great detail. If he did that it would have been more tolerable. Do people really live like that? All the good people in the book were religious. All the bad were not. As with the majority of the people on the planet, I am not American. I understand the concept the author was trying to get across but really are Americans actually that freedom loving that they will kill, starve and see their loved ones die just because of gun control and refusing to pay their debts to the world? Seems far fetched but who knows eh. I purchased the second book at the same time as this one. If there is half the God crap I'm going to loose it.
Yes, I liked the point of view & some of the ideas on what could happen. Not my personal point of view but interesting.
The survivalists guide book! One of my best reads and all to possible in today's economic times!
All, brings the story together.
Scary in the sense that we are only three meals shy of economic collapse At any time. Survivalists and upper government would have no problem rapping their brains around what could and almost has happened! A depression with are population would be devastating.
Patriots is a decent story overall. It is one of those books that I am glad I read but doubt I will even read it a second time. Character development seemed to be lacking more often than not. But the biggest flaw that I found is that there were quite a few events that seemed contrived or out of place but put into the story so that the author could showcase his religious views. Keeping with the religious overtones of the book, if a character was a Christian then they are a good guy. If a character wasn't a Christian then they are either a cannibal with a cart full of hacked up human bodies, a rapist, a looter, and/or a murderer. The push of religious views seemed to get more frequent as the story line progressed. I am not against religion in any way; but the author shouldn't have gone out of his way to weave it into the story as much as he did as it just made it seem like propaganda.
There are other reviews, especially on Amazon for the hard cover book, that state that you have to read this book to prepare for a TEOTWAWKI or SHTF situation. That is horrible advice. This is a work of fiction. The author has written a true survival manual; "How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It". Read that book if you want to prepare for when the SHTF. Do not think that this book is in any way a survival manual. It has some good ideas in it but those ideas come straight out of other survival manuals. This book is fiction and nothing more.
This book provided a look at what would happen should our country as we know it has the system that keeps it as it is fail.It is an interesting perspective of what would become of us should this happen. Also, it provides some thought provoking preparedness that could take place to make yourself ready for a scenario of this type. In some ways the scenario matches the Zombie features I've seen. I don't think either of those scenarios will play out but interesting to ponder and think about what could happen.
Yes, there are many ideas for preparing or just everyday life.
The author never went in just one direction. He told the story for everyone. There was no guessing on how someone came to be.
overall great story and recommend it
I checked out several other SHTF novels but this one was the one I purchased
the narrarator did a good job of changing him voice as to not be monotone
How to get out of town and survive a financial collapse
Really enjoying the story so far. Definately worth listening to, especially if you have an interest in preparing for any 'worse case scenario'. Most definately believable. Not too thrilled with the narration though. Somewhat dry & toneless, but don't let that discourage a listen.
I am serious about Sci-Fi and Fantasy!! Iv'e either read or listened to all of the ones worth it and then some.
Its relativity to what our economy is heading towards now is very interesting and scary.
Dick Hill does another excellent job with the naration.
I listened to this book over a couple of days while working and it was a hard one to put down.
Good work to my Idahoan from another state. lol.
That I could listen to it on my iPod anytime I wanted
Oh yes it did. There were a few parts where it dragged a little bit, but than it would always pick right back up. One of my favorite novels
The last 1/3 of the book
Are You Prepared?
Is a very great listen and well worth the money and time
