I have recommended this entire series to all of my friends and family because it provides a compelling and thought-provoking story that doesn't include zombies, aliens, mutants, vampires or any other ridiculousness that pervades the prepper-fiction genre. It also provides enough information to get them started on their own "life-assurance" program.
Atlas Shrugged is the only non-biblical work which has had a comparable impact on my thought processes and world view.
I don't follow the narrators. I'm sorry, but I don't even pay attention to them unless they are really butchering the pronunciation.
Are you ready?
I first read this book in 2010 while I was teaching a field artillery class at West Point. It prompted me to sell off my stocks and buy tangibles. That decision was immediately rewarded, and I haven't looked back. This series has since induced several "come to Jesus" moments in my life, and I am a better (and better prepared) man as a result.
The group the story is focused around seems to look for trouble. Ambushing and conducting unlawful searches of law-abiding citizen at gun point. Decent story just one of the 1st books I wouldn't mind where the story's heroes getting taken out.
Yes, but not for the story or the performance.
The writing style of soliloquy followed by a list is, at best, stilted.
The information was useful and/or thought provoking. The writing style was an odd mix of documentary and an attempt at fiction.
1) Communist cannibal looters...seriously?
2) drive= to operate a motor vehicle. If you are behind the wheel, even if you are "traveling" you are also driving.
This is not a story, it is a survivalist manual and instruction guide disguised as a fiction novel. This was 20 painful hours that I can never get back. 20 hours....seriously, with zero character development and background or prose you wouldn't think reciting supply lists, gun types, parts, and ammo, and fortification strategies would take that long. Some how this author manages it though.
What makes this the most painful is that I actually agree with some of the foundational philosophy! I consider myself a constitutional conservative. But the same way Westborough Baptist makes all Christians look bad, this guy makes conservative gun fans and peepers look like nut jobs. Save to 20 hours and the credit and research prepping and survivalism online. It will take less time and be cheaper and less painful in the long run.
I tried my best to listen to this...but I couldn't do it. I kept falling asleep. I'm sure this book will appeal to some who love to get into the details of prepping. (And I mean details!) But if you're looking for a good story...keep looking.
it's very "PG" and sterile, not typical of how a bunch of adults would talk. Dialog is very unnatural, and unrealistic, and combined with the way the narrator made the different voices, was very hard to listen to. this would probably be more appropriate for a teen reader, or younger "virgin" ears.
