"The Ultimate Christmas Tale"
This audiobook of "A Christmas Carol" is told with great appeal by Tim Curry. This is arguably Dickens' most famous and popular novella, and listening to the original audiobook for the first time, shows it to be superior to the many versions that have appeared on either film or television.
Dickens shows why he is considered one of the greatest authors to have lived, with beautiful descriptive prose and imagery, classic characters and many underlying themes. This is a wonderful Christmas story on the surface, but scratch a little deeper, and you will be exposed to many subtle themes that held resonance with Dickens himself.
"Fantastic reading by Tim Curry"
Entertaining from start to finish. Tim has such a great voice and uses it to best effect. I recommend this book
"A classic and free."
Not much I can say about this story as everyone will know it well so I will just say the narrator was excellent and the audio quality was good.
"my fave Christmas story"
this is my fave Christmas story always worth reading or listening to no matter what
"My favourite story's"
This is one of my favourite story's of all time and to have Tim Curry reading it made it all the better. Could and will listen to it over and over again 👍👍
"Very Good Read"
I thought that Tim Curry did a very good job. Charles Dickens was a very good author.
"Excellent narration of a classis"
We listened to this as a family while driving 8 hours to Scotland for Christmas. It made the miles pass quickly and made the kids put down Nintendo's for a change.
Really enjoyed it and will listen again in the future.
"A fantastic version of a yearly read..."
I absolutely love this book, but what I'm reviewing, really, is the audio recording. Tim Curry was the main selling point for me as there are cheaper versions I had listened to before. It is WELL worth the extra few quid, as Curry's voice lends itself well to bringing Dickens alive. If you're a stranger to dickens, this is the way in, a great place to start, and a fantastic version. :-)
An excellent gift from Audible/Amazon. Characters were performed brilliantly as one might expect, though TC struggled with the narrative, I felt, so that it felt like a chap reading it rather than the narrator of a story giving it voice from his own imagination or recollection. Complaining though seems churlish and against the spirit of the book, however I empathise with the early Scrooge so.....Baah humbug!
"A classic, performed well"
Tim Curry brings this classic alive. Short and sweet. Thanks audible! (It was a gift to us subscribers)
