Story comes alive
Tim Curry brought the story alive. Excellent job!
I thoroughly enjoyed listening. I had forgotten how funny and well written the story was and I was happy to go back to the original version and just let Tim Curry read to me over the Christmas Season. A great holiday treat!
Yes, I would recommend Tim Curry's reading of "A Christmas Carol" since he does a great job of capturing a variety of voices (and laughs) for each character. For anyone new to Dickens's writing or only familiar with the Disney version of this story, I would highly recommend taking the few hours to listen to Curry's telling of the tale.
As far as the story goes, the descriptions of the ghosts were my favorite. They were detailed and symbolic, yet did not overshadow Scrooge's character development.
My favorite scene is when Curry captures the belly-laugh of Scrooge's nephew. The whole description of the party scene is set up by his infectious laugh, thus underscoring the point of the scene.
This was a freebie from the Ford book club; thank you Ford!!! I had read this one ago and was happy to reconnect with Scrooge and the ghosts as an adult. I love this story and Tim Curry's narration was outstanding!
Excellent, Lively, Engrossing
When tiny Tim was quoted as saying that he wanted to go to church so that the people could see him......... Also when anyone would make bad remarks about Mr. Scrooge, I'd feel very sad and it felt like emotional bullying to me.
All the animated voices that he uses for each character in the book: he brought it to life in the best way for me.....he really made the story come to life like never before. Bravo!
When tiny Tim's family were gathered around the table together as a family unit, making the most of a bad situation..... and being joyful with what they had.
I wish to thank Ford Audiobook Club for giving me a free copy of this wonderful audiobook to listen to and give my honest review. I would've never thought to get this book on my own, because there are so many tv specials and movies. It gets tiring pretty fast when they are constantly bombarding you each year. However, Tim Curry breathed new life into this story like never before. I don't think anyone can top his rendition of the story. He did an excellent performance with so many different character voices that he used. It was absolutely outstanding! I am so glad that Ford chose this book for this month. Ford hit it out of the ball park two for two that I have been in their audiobook club. They sure know the very best audiobooks. Thank you Ford Audiobook Club!!. This, I can listen to more often.
A trilogy. Say it in three. Done.
Dickens, seasoned with a little Curry and served with well-aged spirits. Bon appétit! This audiobook is simply scrumptious — not merely "an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a fragment of underdone potato." We savoured each word as Scrooge came vividly to life in our horseless carriage. With Curry's expert cadence setting the pace we devoured the distance for a holiday visit.
Honestly, it almost feels like a sacred text. Dickens must have been inspired. The language is gorgeous. There is no real comparison to the varied Scroogy movies, but occasionally we'd catch a line or two that's a precise match with a film version. That's jolly good fun.
