I'm Robert's wife, a retired physician and homeschool mom whose grown kids now love history, literature, sci-fi, fantasy, historical fiction
This was my first listen by this narrator, and he brought this familiar story to life. He holds your attention despite the familiarity.
Tim Curry is such a great performer. He put the "wow" in a Christmas classic! Would recommend this to all ages. I don't think I really knew the classic tale until I heard Mr. Curry narrate.
The soul of Ebenezer.
This is a great listen for everyone. I highly recommend it!
Curry takes one of the most lovable and best known stories in English literature and makes it better. Superb timing, voicing and expression. Loved every minute of it.
I read all sorts of books from various non-fiction to YA fantasy. Love them all!
This well-known story was excellently narrated by Tim Curry...and I'm SO glad I decided to pay the extra couple of dollars for the Curry narration! His voice is soothing yet engaging at the same time. His voices for each character are spot on. And his delivery of the humor was so well-timed!
When grumpy and miserly Ebeneezer Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his long-deceased business partner, he gets the shock of his life. Apparently, a person's job on earth is to walk among his fellow men and help them. For those who were too selfish to help, they are doomed to an eternity of walking among men and desiring to help, but not being able to. Scrooge is about to be given a chance at redemption. He will be visited by three ghosts. The Ghost of Christmas Past reminds him that although he'd had a rather dreary childhood, he'd had plenty of chances to make people (rather than wealth) his passion. The Ghost of Christmas Present shows him how happy people can be when they are surrounded by the people they love at Christmas. And the Ghost of Christmas Future reveals a dreary future which may come to pass if Scrooge continues on his miserly path. On Christmas morning, Scrooge awakens a new man - someone who knows how important it is to love one's neighbors and to rejoice in their friendship. This is such a great story because it reminds us that wealth does not necessarily make us happy. It reminds us to look at the world through a different perspective. And, it's pretty darned funny. :)
The Best! Amazing performance. Breaths new life into a story that we all know well.
Beginning to end, not a dull moment.
The whole thing is amazing. Tim Curry performs the book, he doesn't just read the words. He lives the words.
Take the time and listen to this audio book. Worth your time.
I've always thought Tim Curry was under appreciated and am glad to see him do this. I know it's been around for a while but this is a great performance. I hope he gets used more for some distinctly British novels or stories. There are many unique voices that I'd love to see preserved with a reading. The A-List series is approaching that idea, but imagine if Sean Connery could be convinced to read something. Anyway, this is an excellent rendering of the story and it is more than I had even remembered as far as size and depth. I'm not a Dickens fan as I think he gets too longwinded due to his episodic/magazine/serialization style, but this is compact and fine.
The narration is my favorite part of this book. Tim Curry is incredible.
Scrooge is my favorite. It is fun to follow his development over the Christmas night.
There is something about his voice. He is perfect for this performance.
The most moving part for me is where Scrooge starts to soften, around the part with the second ghost, and you understand that there is still hope for the old grumpy man.
I listen to this book every year in December. It is easily one of my all time favorites.
I teach High School Theater and Fine Arts and still have hair! I am phenomenal!
This is a Christmas Classic performed by an actor with a wonderful voice and deep nuances to match the plot!
I loved the atmosphere of Victorian London created by the sounds and the cadences echoed in the novella.
I loved Fred!
I have always loved this novella and Curry only seasoned it with more pathos and the joy of the season for me.
I would strongly recommend this novella to one and all!
Tim Curry was fantastic - and even though we all know it - don't we all love to revisit it? So much fun!
Until listening to this version, I had no idea that Dickens was so witty. A lovely story, superbly narrated.
