Absolutely terrible ending that is contradictory to facts detailed earlier in Patterson's story. The twist at the end was unnecessary and a betrayal of character development.... Mr. Patterson.... your readers, I believe, are not this stupid!
I liked this book a lot but the twist at the end has me not liking it as much. Not what I expected, not typical Patterson. If I had know (not that you would know) how it ended I would never have listened to it. Although the rest of the book was enjoyable.
Plot - a little too contrived. It seems that he went for a twist at the end rather than consistent plot. Too many unmotivated events. Main character is too inconsistent. A lot of unnecessary profanity.
The book is well written and the character development is very good.
The only knock on the story is that it's premise is a story of a young kid falsely accused. But the case against him is so weak that it totally blows the idea that ANYONE would EVER believe he committed the crime - yet everyone outside his ring of believers thinks he did it.
The readers were great - very enjoyable! Great ending and wrap up!
Overall, worth it!!

This same old story line has been used over and over again. As another reviewer said, " this is a cookie cutter book". Another reviewer stated that the only reason he gave it two stars is that he managed to finesh it. That is why I also gave it two stars. In an unsuccessful attempt to shock the reader, he totaly recreated the lead charactor at the end of the book. The multiple readers did not bother me. It was the only thing I liked about the book.
Finally, if I may quote a third fellow reviewer: "Don't bother"!
I am a HUGE Patterson fan, and have read everything he's done. I was so looking forward to this book, and downloaded it as soon as it was available. Unfortunately, it was not what I had hoped for. There are so many characters introduced in the first hour, I kept replaying segments, not knowing who I needed to pay attention to. There was the typical twist at the end, which was good. But all in all, it was mostly boring & confusing. Purchase with caution, especially if you hoping to jump in quickly.
The twist ending of Beach Road was so excellent that it made this bood very memorable. The narrartors also did an excellent job. One thing to mention is there are a couple of adult scenes in the book - so listener be informed.
While the book was a good listen, I can't believe Tom's character. There were no hints, no indications, no ties to his true character. It seems the author adds this twist at the end of the book just because it's exciting. There is no character development or explanation of motivation which would pull this story together at the end. It makes it unbeliveable, to me. In listening to the story a second time, it's even more unbelievable. But, if you are just looking for a quick story, it's not bad.
I love to read, the books need to be fairly complicated or interesting in their own way. I belong to a book club that selects great books.
Really enjoyed the book to the very end. Recommend to those who like a real page turner to the last page
I have read many Patterson books, and though some were disappointing, this one truly takes the cake. Until the last two chapters, it was engrossing. The ending is the worst, without qualification, of any book that I have ever read! Silly, unbelievable, and ridiculous, it appeared that the two authors had painted themselves into a corner and had no idea of how to get out. So they throw in a bs ending like this one?!? Patterson had disappointed me before, but never on this level. Won't bother wasting my hard earned cash on another of his books. Please don't bother either, and, spoiler alert - Tom is the bad guy. Even if you read it in the lousy book, you still couldn't fathom him as the murderer. Please don't waste your time!
