I actually had laughs and got tears in my eyes during this book. I am getting the next book in this series, I hope it is as good as the first one.
Never heard of Dick Hill narrating but was excellent. We shall see what the 2nd book in the series presents.
Dick Hill has a great voice that brings the dramatic qualities of the novel to life. This is a very good story for a first novel. There are parts of the novel in which the plot seems circuitous, but it never goes on for too long. I would like to listen to the rest of the books in the series in sequence but I hesitate now because they are not all narrated by the same person.
Nurse, mother, wife, Catholic and avid reader!
I am totally addicted to Reacher! I started reading the series about three years ago when my dad brought The Enemy to the beach for vacation. I was hooked. I have mostly been going to the library to catch up on all the previous books that I missed, but for some reason couldn't get access to this one. I will say- Jack and I are lucky we made it to a series from this book. I'm glad the gratuitous, violent torture death scenes didn't become part of legend.
Was heartbroken (and confused) about the brother. Thought he was in later books, so I kept waiting for the mistaken identity trope to resurrect him.
I think later Reacher would have been on to that sleazy warden from jump. Really, most important person in prison decides to personally walk you to your room? Not suspicious at all. And the FBI agent- so obvious!
Now after reading so many later series Reacher books I am very happy in the direction Child has decided to take the hero and his decision not to rely so heavily on miraculous levels of coincidence.
Enjoy listening to many different types of books. I like to listen while I am in the car and working.
This was my first Reacher novel and I loved it! I had a hard time putting it down and really enjoyed it all the way through. Lost of action and suspense, VERY enjoyable. I'm looking forward to reading the rest in the series.
I really enjoyed the Singma Force series by James Rollins and felt the action and suspense in this series so far is even better.
Perfect Voice and reading style
Non-Stop action and suspense
Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a good action thriller
I'm a southerner, and I'll tell you Dick Hill nailed those voices! Great performance! Enjoyed the book greatly.
OMG. I'm not squeemish, but the details of the fights and shoot outs with Jack are AMAZINGLY detailed. Loved the narrator and the storyline. I will definitely continue this series on Audible.
Spellbounding story and a great narrator!
Enjoyed every minute of it
Jack is one of my favorate book characters
I have not read the print version, but I think I would have skipped those parts that I found tedious to listen - which would have made the reading experience more enjoyable
The small town Chief of Detectives
Not bad - good voice acting, good story though dated, interesting characters. But I found there to be many descriptive passages that, if reading, would have skipped, but listening I found tedious and repetitive.
Well paced and full of action, but the mistakes and implausible events are distracting and really unnecessary. For example, Reacher, who lives on the road without even a change of clothes, shows up in town and has the most beautiful woman in it taking him to bed within 24 hours, presumably unshaven and stinking. Then he kills about a dozen people, one after another, during the course of his alliance with members of the local police force. There are other flaws, but you get the idea.
No, but it may have turned me off from other Reacher novels.
There are already about 16 of them.
