I liked best the building up of the characters. I liked least the Narrator. Horrible. She makes Maura sound so stuffy and stale. Sheesh! I am forcing myself to listen to the rest. This is a must read, do not listen if you can't get past boring speak.
I love Tess's books, they are always a good read. I have listened to many of her books out of order so I have gotten used to better narrator's who clearly understand the characters, so I feel as if I know them and how they are supposed to sound. This Narrator, was OMG!!! sooooo boring, I was actually pissed that she totally had Maura's voice all wrong. She made her sound like a stale, unattractive, old lady, with a chip on her shoulder. The description of Maura and the voice were sooooo different. Other narrators from other Rizzoli and Isles books made her sound beautifully smart, yet very book wise, shy, quiet, but strong willed. I am actually still in the middle of this book. I don't think it is the best of the Rizzoli Series, simply because this is an earlier one where her characters lives, Maura and Jane's are really being built up, whereas other books are really and truly about the mystery of the murder, that's ok though, and actually if you read them in order it will be fine, remember I know more about the characters than I should while reading this book.If you are a Rizzoli and Isles fan and you haven't read this yet, READ it, if you listen to it you will be thoroughly upset. I will force myself to listen to the rest.I love the way Tess build upon each character in each book. I started out with Ice Cold, Awesome book and narrator, then Body Double, then Silent Girl which is the absolute BEST EVER and the latest. Then I realized, hey you are reading them out of order. The only reason it matters is because her main charaters lives are built up with each novel and new characters are introduced. Anywhoooo... that is my 2 cents. Oh Oh and just a side note, I can't really get into the TV show just yet because Hollywood has changed the characters up too much for me, well Maura that is. Jane is almost just as I pictured her, love that actress, but the other one is well, just not Maura :-)Enjoy Yall!
Tanya Eby is an Awesome Narrator for Tess's Books. She has the characters spot on.
Only if they didn't change the characters like they did in the TV show.
I really enjoyed this book. I had read reviews talking about the way the narrator pronounced Rizzoli as "Ritzoli" as I found it a tiny bit distracting as well. I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Gerritsen at a book signing for her latest novel & mentioned the way the narrator pronounced it. She explained it as the way a Bostonian would pronounce it. Her example was "Hey..Ritzoli." and did it in the dialect like this narrator did. I would have preferred the narrator to stay in a regional dialect through out as that would have made it clearer to the listener. Anyway, after she said that, it made a lot more sense to me. If you like the TNT series, Rizzoli & Isles, this book as well as The Surgeon are combined for the pilot episode. I don't want to give anything away as I enjoyed both reading and listening to these books. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes police/medical examiner murder mysteries. One thing I loved from listening to Dr. Gerritsen was that she came up with the idea for this series from a suggestion from one of her readers at a book signing. The woman asked if she could do a book with murderers & kinky sex. It's always great to learn that authors do take in to consideration what their readers would like. I hope this clears up the pronounciation issues for any listeners who may have been put off by some of the reviews. She researches her books thoroughly and if there is something she wants in her books that she doesn't personally know, she does web, book & interviews with people in those fields of study to make sure the information she is putting in her books is as accurate as possible. And don't worry fans, I also expressed my dismay that The Surgeon is only available abridged, which she did not know. So, maybe if the future we will get an unabridged version of that book. Please give this series a try, you won't be sorry

The narrator is wonderful and does a good job of lending her voice and expression to match the mood of the story. The ending makes you want to read or listen to the next book in the series right away to find out what Rizolli does regarding her pregnancy situation.
Maura Isles -- she is still somewhat of an unknown with a very deep and multi-faceted personality and background.
When Dr. Isles' exhusband shows up
It had some humor in it as well as excitement and mystery
Well worth the money or credit point
Terrific suspense and character development. What keeps me from giving it 5 stars are the prologue and the last chapter, both of which are unnnecessary -- the book would stand much better without them.
For reasons I can't explain, I want to say that this is more of a women't mystery. Take that as you will.
I look forward to reading more of this author, and the narrator is excellent; always an important consideration.
Similar to others in this genre. The characters are all just a touch outside reality. Good for a flight or hours on the beach.
She did a great job with all the characters.
Anna's pronunciation of Rizzoli has a "t" in it. It is not Ritzoli!
This was a decent read, but it didn't really excite me. Gerritsen has a good plot with interesting and unique events and relationships, but the characters are not deeply developed and the coincidences necessary to complete the plot line were a little bizarre.
For what it is this book is functional, but it's certainly not great literature.
I wish I had bought the written book instead. The narration is toneless, the voice used for Maura Isles sounds like a dead person, and in my opinion, any 6th grade reader would have done as good a job. Just a book read aloud - no imagination or character in the narration whatsover.
a really good story from first to last, kept my interest, my new favourite author . anna fields is a good reader 5 stars enjoyable
