Disease epidemic, the future, neurology, time travel. yes please!
the story is choppy, as it is told by many characters about the main character, Rant. but I enjoyed a different style. it makes you think and put the puzzle together however you want. my fav of chucks so far.
The cast of narrators employed to enact this book gives a perfect example of the possibilities of audio books. Must listen for any audio book enthusiast. I might have a hard time listening to any other fiction after being exposed to this great production!
Narrators were great, and it's a great story, but the oral history writing style gets irritating after a while, as each time someone speaks, they first introduce themselves, breaking the momentum of the story.
Otherwise, this is a great Dystopian Fiction piece. It is a departure from the style of Chuck Palahniuk's other, more well-known pieces such as Fight Club and Choke. The oral history format, while irritating to listen to after a while, is an interesting approach to creating a tale of fiction.
The repertory performance wildly enhances the intricate narrative. The lack of chronological coherence is a knife wielded perfectly to gauge your attention just when it might otherwise slip.
Our modern literary master does not disappoint with a fictional biography weaved by disparate tales of a wake left in the pool of humanity.
Palahniuk continues to impress with the leaps he achieves from story to story.
This story blew me away. There's not much you can say without giving away the plot, but the fact that the back cover description is a perpetuated lie throughout the book, that you have to ask yourself what is true. So meta.
In sales and on the road a lot. Love SciFi, Fantasy, Historical Fiction, and the occasional Non-Fiction. Funny. Opinionated.
See, that's the thing. I've read three others: Fight Club (obv), Survivor, and Diary. I loved them.
Didn't care for the performance but the material was pretty rough so that probably didn't help.
Uhm... not really. It didn't catch me at all. I just found myself thinking: This is dumb. This sucks. What? Why am I listening to this? Oh look, something shiny! It's a quarter! Wow, this is an interesting quarter. Why is there talking in my ear? Oh well, must not be important...
Sorry to anyone that loves this book, but it just wasn't for me. Waste of a credit.
