This is my first read by Ms. Andrews, I was captured the in the first five mins. of her book. I could imagine that I was right there in Guthier, GA. I listen on my way to and from work. This is my destressing time. I have found that my driving is calmer, when I arrive home I am not as tense.
There are times in my life when I cannot give a story my full attention and/or I do not have the energy to emotionally invest myself in its characters; but I still want to be entertained and I don't want to settle for mediocre writing. If you know what I am talking about and are looking for a book to fit that bill, this is a good choice.
In one form or another, we've met all of these characters before. We know the querulous old woman really has a heart of gold. We know the handsome male protagonist will always be there when the heroine needs him. And we know the heroine will, eventually, find happiness in a town full of off-beat but charming locals. We know all of this and that's what makes this book so great. You know what to expect when you pick it up and you're not disappointed when you put it down. With its clear prose and enjoyable narration, if you're looking to escape into the familiar, I think you will welcome this addition to your listening library.
Mary Kay Andrews is such a wonderful storyteller. I loved every minute and enjoyed the narration and southern accent.
This book was a new nice listen. Isabel Keating does a nice job with accents and varying the characters voices. A nice book for a getaway.
I am a cross country trucker that "reads" 3-5 books a week lets face it I have 70 hours a week to fill while I stare out the windshield.
This is way too sappy sweet and unrealistic in every day life but a good story nonetheless
I bought this book specifically for the renovation [porn] excitement all tangled with intrigue and mystery. The build up was great but the climax was flat, no twist, no surprise. Laid out, executed and cut off ending without completing the house, which the book was named for!
I always really enjoy her books they are fun easy comforting books I think I enjoyed even more this one because I enjoy refurbishing furniture and what not. The narrators are always great I have listened to allot of them more then once.
This book is really a great fun story. The writing is witty and clever and there is never a dull moment. It's not the deepest book in the world but I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I look forward to reading much more from this author. This is a super beach read or grab the book for a plane ride and it's wonderful to listen to an audible because the narrator does such a great job.
