I really enjoyed this book. the story was entertaining with enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. I also thought the narrator did a good job, though I felt the accent to be more easy coast than L.A.
I do wish the author had done more to flesh out the character of Henry Bosch.
Overall, a fun experience and I will continue with the next in the series.
Harry Bosch is one of the most likable fiction characters I have ever read. This was a great story and I didn't see who the bad guy was until the last 20 minutes of the story.
You think you own a book, but you do not. I joined Audible in 2006. Audible said I joined in 2011. Then they found books from 2008, but nothing before 2008. They said it will take two weeks to provide a list. I have credit card receipts. I went to Amazon. Same thing with kindle, but they said i bought books I never owned. When I went back in my library to 2009 and selected a book, it said that I had to buy it again. When I looked for all the foreign language dictionaries, they said I did not own them and they were right. I never bought those, but where are the missing 300 books. I haven't even looked at iTunes.
Book is fine digital Amazon and Audible are not.
I got this after watching Bosch on Amazon Video. I really enjoyed the show (new season please!!) and this book was so entertaining that I'm going to start listening and reading the other books in the series.
Not for heavy thinkers, but pure entertainment that's not silly or patronizing.
Narration was great, too.
This is an excellent book. The plot is engaging, and I was surprised by some of its twists and turns. The characters are complex and diverse enough to provoke some thought and empathy.
Dick Hill is an excellent narrator, able to produce a variety of distinct, realistic and easy-on-the-ears voices. His pacing and expressiveness are impeccable.
Bearing in mind that the book is set in the early 1990's and some younger readers may have to use their imaginations to envision a time where people were sill using phone booths and using magnetic tape for audio recordings, I highly recommend this book. First-rate entertainment.
This was a really enjoyable story, with great characters an an unusual plot. Indeed, the action scenes were gripping.
If the question is: will a pre-cell-phone /internet era thriller stand the test of time.. The answer is yes.
Love my family...along with guitars, road bikes, cameras, and a good book!
Michael Connelly is a fantastic writer. His Lincoln Lawyer series is one of my favorites, so I decided to venture into another series. What a great start! If the rest of this series is as great as The Black Echo, I am in for a real treat. The Harry Bosch character is interesting, believable, well-crafted, and so interesting! The supporting characters, and the plot line were very entertaining, and the story led me through the book quickly. Just enough twists and turns to keep it interesting AND believable.
Dick Hill is such a great narrator, as well. I have loved nearly every book I've heard that he has read. Overall, just a really good experience, and I can't wait to get to the next book!
