Harry's a Warden now with a new quest, to keep his dearest friend's daughter safe from the evil that has snatched her away. This story has all his close buds helping, and we see a new side of Charity that was a pleasant surprise. Typical Harry Dresden adventure, which doesn't disappoint fans, and another gold star for James Marsters, whom has made it impossible for me to read a single Dresden book. He's Harry, and that's all there is to it.
Once again I'm caught listening at lunch in the car and well after my break is over. I think I'm in love! I can't get enough of Harry and the crew. Always new and interesting twists in each installment and I can't wait to finish one installment and start the next. I guarantee you will become addicted. Clean fun listening. Won't kill any brain cells...but I won't grow any new ones either. So sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.
Highly recommend the full series so far!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the series so far and I think this particular book might be one of my favourites.
I particularly like the novels involving the Carpenter family and this one does not disappoint.
Great plot and lots of twists and turns to keep the story from becoming boring.
From the city to Winter Fairly land, favourite characters are brought back into the story and as always, James Marsters's wonderful narration just adds to the quality, emotion and suspence of the story.
I recommend this series of books to anyone who loves fantasy or sci fi fiction.
Only four more books to go...and I know I will be waiting on tenderhooks for book 13!
Butcher continues to impress with this great series. The addition of Molly in this book is great and continues to flesh out Dresden and allows us greater insight into his past and who he really is.
James Marsters continues to grow on me as a narrator. He did an admirable job with this book.
Jim Butcher is awesome. One of the best series Ever. However, I wish he could give Dresden a little down time occasionally... poor guy never even gets to sleep, much less Sleep With someone... seriously a terrific book... love the reintroduction of characters.
I love the banter between characters and the humor thrown in makes me laugh.
James Marsters is great. I have listened to other books where the male narrator made every woman sound like an airhead. James Marsters has a great gift of giving each character a personality and sticking with it in every book.
Avid fan of sci-fi and James Marsters, I use audio books to inspire me to exercise, taking them on morning walks. It's a perfect combo!
Another wonderful addition to the Dresden 'Verse made even better by the addtion of Molly Carpenter and her magical and personal struggles. Mouse is turning out to be a forbidable character in his own right and is a welcome addtion to 'Team Dresden' (or 'Team Murphy', as the case may be). Jim Butcher manages to keep several sub-plots going along throughout the series while casting Harry and his cohorts into deep, dark danger. There is rarely a lull in the action of one sort or another, but he manages to interject clear explanations to keep all the balls in the air at once and allow you to follow them all easily. I particularly loved the imagination and detailed description of Queen Mab's stronghold, very well written; excellent details.
As always, James Marsters does a superb job on the telling of the tale. His emotion-filled voice draws you into the scenes, making your heart race along with the characters, your eyes mist over when his do, and even laugh aloud at times. Well written and well performed. Perfect.
This book like the others is just a really good listen. Butcher has created such an unique character in Dresden. He reminds me of the lead in Die Hard who takes a beating and still carries on, just a bit more rumpled and battered than before. The narration by James is first rate.. He has continually improved his performance through the reading of the books and has captured the essence of Dresden and the other characters with the voices he uses for each. Looking forward to listening to the next one.
Thank you, Jim Butcher, for crafting characters that grow with each respective book. Book 8 is 8 times as good as Book 1. But it's because we have 7 previous books with you've built from. The narration is excellent, as is the character development, as is the story: engaging and humorous and gripping...and a helluva a lot of fun to listen to. I pay for each of these, but each is a gift! Imagin that: being happy with a gift that I've paid for!!!
It's fortunate that an actor as great as James Marsters is the continuing narrator for the Harry Dresden series. Marsters (who played Spike in the Buffy TV series) does a fine job of personifying Harry and the other characters in the series, including the women. These Dresden audiobooks are worth listening to multiple times.
