The story started off a little slow but it is a really good mystery. After the first couple of chapters you do get into the book. There is no detail sex but you will like the story.
I really enjoyed this listen. The story is full of humor and also contains a good mystery. I often figure out the ending of a mystery, but I was kept guessing until the end. The characters are so interesting and likeable that I am looking forward to getting to know them even better in the sequel. I started the sequel immediately after finishing this one. To answer some of the other reviewers, you do find out if she gets the guy in the sequel. I liked this listen so much that I have now purchased every other Kyra Davis audiobook that is available on Audible.com. By the way, I also thought the narrator did a great job, and I do not understand the negative comments by some reviewers.
This book is the first in the sofie katz series and it rocks. The heroine is first class! its funny and very well thought out. Sofie can solve mysteries, date, and avoid family all in stilettos. a must for anyone who like chick lit or girl detectives
Ive read all the books by kyra davis and she is a great writer highly recommended.
I listen to books on tape while I work out or do housework and run errand so I like them light so I can just set it down and pick it up later. This author reminds me of Janet Evanovich but not quite as funny. The characters are lovable and quirky. I had some trouble with the narrator trying to give everyone their own voice though- took me some time to get over it but once I did I really enjoyed it. Great light, easy listen. I gave it a three but would consider it a 3.5
I personally thought very well written-and very surprising ending.
This is my first novel by this author. This was a good "busy work" audio book. I listened to it while doing my household chores and office typing. In movie terms this would definately be a "chic flick."
I've listened to 5 books in this series, and am so very disappointed with the author. It has nothing to do with the writing or her mystery crafting prowess, which are fine. This author seems to have a big agenda to degrade and trounce Christians. It isn't so obvious in the first book, but becomes a bit more pronounced in subsequent books.
Christians are portrayed as bad parents, bad politicians, shady criminals, .. while the only ones that truly care about people are the heroine's friends - a sordid group of dominatrix, gays and dummies.. There hasn't been one positive portrayal of a Christian that I can remember in any of the first 5 books.
Why did I wade through 5 of her books? Well, I kept thinking that maybe it was just this one story.. and it would get better. By the end of the 5th novel, I didn't even want to finish the book because the vitriol was so bad.
While I'm not a hard-lined, rigid, people bashing Christian, it does seem to me that the author appears to have an agenda, to promote alternative lifestyles, and denounce Christians.
While this is absolutely her right to do so, I won't be supporting her with any more of my money.
It is such a shame., she had a creative mind for the mystery.
The story was somewhat interesting but I really started hating the heroine about 3/4 through the book. She annoyed the hell out of me when she framed an innocent person and got him shot and arrested. I'm glad it was on sale and I didn't waste a credit on this book.
I get so excited sometimes about writing a review..good or bad...that why sometimes I misspell words..lol..
When I heard the sample I thought this book was like the Lisa Lutz books..(funny, interesting from start to finish) The Spellman Files, Curse of the Spellmans ...etc..but it was boring at least in the beginning. I only kept listening because I paid for it. At some point in the book it really got good. The only problem big problem is the narrator trying to do the different accents- that was pretty bad
(- one star). You really wouldnt know what race she was trying to protray without the description...also...unfortunately I guessed the end pretty fasted I thought it was typical and not too creative (- one star). but I think I might try another. Sophie with the two friends were the funniest in the book!!
