Great story and great narration but painfully too long for an audiobook. It would have been a 5-stars if it wasn't so long.
This is by far the best book I've listened to in a long time. The writing is superb and the story line is gripping. The narrator did a great job - no he doesn't have an Irish accident, but he does a great job of differentiating every character. The characters were well developed and the plot was interesting. I saw the ending coming from a mile away, not so much because it was obvious but more because the author does such a good job of developing the characters I saw the clues pretty early on, but it didn't distract from the story for me. I maybe enjoyed it even more getting to watch how the author made it all unfold. I will be reading many more books by Tana French.
I loved this book, and I hated this book. I cannot spoil the ending for you my fellow reading enthusiasts... However prepared to be surprised and possibly disappointed all at the same time.
What I loved about this book is that it started off with a bang, but then enters into a bit of a lull where we learn a lot about our characters but with out giving anything away...it slows down and never quite takes me where I thought it would.
All in all, I would definitely read the rest of the Tana French books, but I am hoping she might revist some of these characters in the future
"The first and last book written by Tana French or narrated by Steven Crossley that I will ever read/listen to."
Having finished the book, I'm stunned so many people left glowing, 5 star reviews. The characters were bumbling idiots & the story was filled to the top with inconsistencies. These had to be the worst detectives in any book ever written! I can't stand leaving a book unfinished so I kept listening, hoping that it would be worth it in the end. It wasn't.
As for the narrator, his imitations for female characters & children were torturous. He came off sounding mocking & ridiculous.
Great writing. Some holes but the characters and plot were great. Ending was a tad disappointing. Narrator did a great job minus none of the characters having the correct accent. Though I would much rather that than an awfully done one.
It made me want to sit in my car and continue to listen after getting to where I was going. There were many twists and turns with little clues dropped throughout. The ending though that left a big question mark.
