I am constantly on the road and a voracious reader, so audiobooks are a must!
Ah, the classic story in which the Earth is destroyed to make way for an obsolete hyperspace express route. This is an excellent story (and introduction to the driest of the dry British humor if you're unfamiliar with it) and excellently produced. Stephen Fry does a fantastic job (he was the voice of the guide in the movie) and captures Douglas Adams' dry sardonic wit beautifully.
If you're unfamiliar with the story, it follows the post-Earth life of a certain Arthur Dent as he tries to adjust to life in a much larger galaxy than he ever anticipated. It is dark; it is funny; and it is well worth the short listen.
How can you go wrong with THHGTTG? It's perfect. It's therapy. I listen to it whenever I'm bored and don't feel like listening to anything new. It's a warm comfy towel that you can nuzzle with. Perfect.
it's one of my favorite books... and to be honest, i read aloud from it myself for fun. stephen fry does a fantastic job bringing Adams characters vividly to life.
frys wonderfully metro-sexual voice for Eddie the shipboard computer on the heart of gold.
hard to say... but, it had Marvin in it.
laughed out loud many times.
I would highly recommend this Audible to every one. Catchy and entertaining from the beginning.
My favorite character from this story had to be Ford. His snappy wit and calm nature made him an endearing character to me.
I have never listened to any of Stephen Fry's performances before and I am definitely looking forward to the next one on my list!
If, like me, you grew up reading (and loving) Adams' novels, you'll be pleased with this audio version. Stephen Fry does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. Highly recommend.
The book is brilliant, there is no better word to describe it. It had me laughing all the way through, very original story, with intelligent, off the wall humour. Stephen Fry performance was just perfect and made this fantastic journey even more enjoyable. He did a great job capturing the quirky, british tone of the book. This is the first version of the book I heard (or read), soon after finishing this I watched the movie adaptation and I was pleasently surprised and amused to discover he was the narrator in the movie too. Excellent. I can't recommend it enough.
This is what an audiobook should be. I started getting into them as a way to calm myself during migraines, and having a familiar book "read" aloud to me helps immensely.
Stephen Fry's voice, having been the narrator of the 2005 movie, is the only voice I can picture reading this, even while reading the physical book. The sheer silliness, as well as seriousness, is punctuated by his deadpan, almost "serious father" sounding voice is just brilliant.
I'm not sure I'd recommend this audio book to someone who hasn't read the books in the first place, but, any fan of the series should listen to this version. It is a definite treat, and any fan of the book is bound to be delighted by Fry's reading of this version.
One of the best stories ever. Imaginative, funny and full of great characters and adventures. Stephen Fry does a perfect job- it doesn't get any better.
One of my favorite books of all times.
If you're like me and you listen to those audiobooks while running or walking outside, be ready to get some strange looks as you crack up in public after hearing one of Adams' witty remarks on life, the universe, and everything.
I feel like this review is almost wasted, as I doubt anyone would change their mind on getting this audiobook based on the comments...
