In light of the keystone tragedy in the story, the main character's personal crisis is narcissistic and in self-pitying. The author tends to state (and re-state) the obvious and by over-explaining the characters and the science she leaves little suspense and nothing for the reader to discover. Not recommended.
After the first 15 minutes, I was not able to listen to the rest of this book. It probably is well written and compelling, but the horrendous Nazi crimes (with Polish assistance) about to be detailed was more than I could bear.
While I agree that the age of the main character did not jive with the timeline, the storytelling was strong and moving.
Learning things I never knew before about the murder of Jews during WWII.
Anya - it also takes place in Poland during WWII.
Clear reading and not too slow.
Very difficult to imagine what happened but apparently it did all over eastern Europe during WWII.
I thought that this book started out rather hard to follow. It wasn't long, however, that everything fell into place. This was a good book to listen to.l
Starts off okay but then it gets very predictable and a bit over the top. I was engaged for the first half, but then I just couldn't take it any more and had to put it down
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
I really enjoyed this book it was wrtten excellently, interesting subject matter and well researched actual events. Very moving.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a real eye opener to the tragic things that can & unfortunately do happen during war times. I highly recommend this book. It is the first book I have read (or listened to in this case) of Diane Armstrong & I really like her style of writing. I shall be keeping an eye out for more of her work.
Honest protrayal of main character very believeable. Well woven fictional story, using some of the truths of life during World War II and after.
I had a few problems working out how old the main character was and also a lot of her motivations. A rather stereotypical tale about how the Poles hated the Jews... or rather the stereotypical belief that they did.
Interesting parts but overall, boring.
