Always on the lookout for a great listen, any genre, but mostly romance, mystery or adventure. Alpha males and smart women? Yes, please.
I have read and re-read everything Georgette Heyer ever wrote and am now listening to them. It's like spending time with an old friend. The writing is perfection. Sadly, I think this story would have been better suited to a female voice. Still, I will no doubt re-listen at some point.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book! It frequently made me chuckle, and I looked forward to listening each day's. Far better than watching television. I'm only sad that it's finished. I would love to know what would have happened as the characters move on!
I am always suspect of a 5 star rating, but this story satisfied me on so many levels that 5 seems appropriate. I loved the characters, the fun scenarios that grew out of spontaneous moments and I loved the deep, melodic voice of the narrator. He was as marvelous as a female as he was commanding as the lead male. Great, great fun.
I love both but they did do an excellent job on the narration for this.
Other Georgette Heyer books but this one is more fun than them all.
Ms Heyer is a very gifted writer. She captures the reader in a cloud of wit, humor and often just plain old rock in your chair riotous laughter.
I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading it again.
The fact that Ms Heyer can write a book without obscene language and graffic intimate scenes while developing a strong emotional love connection between her characters, speaks to her skill and cleverness as an author.
Three cheers for this wonderful treat of a book!
Oh, the fun of this book! It's one of the first Georgette Heyer books I read and it's very funny. This audio book is lovely, it brings out aspects in the story I hadn't noticed before
The reason I gave the performance four stars and not five, is I found Clifford Norgate's rendering of Frederica and The Marquis, a bit odd and it took getting used to. Her voice was whispery and his was startlingly deep and pompous, not how I'd imagined. But don't let that put you off! It's truly a good reading and not to be missed for Heyer fans. It's a wonderful historical romance.
