I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.
I read this years ago and have all these books in paperback. When I joined Audible and saw they were avalible I had to start getting them in this form. It's like discovering them again. I love being able to listen to the story again and in this form its like the first time. I have always been an avid reader and this series has always been one of my favorites.
Yes and he is a awesome narrator.
This is so worth your credit or if you don't have a credit and want a book to listen to it's worth the price. You won't be disappointed.
I was looking for a new series to start and this has definitely lived up to my expectations. I love the character development and how each character is introduced thus far (note: I'm starting the 4th book this week). I can't wait to complete the entire series and to see what more is in store for these characters.
Tell us about yourself!
I bought this series a long time ago on sale and never got around to listening to it because I wasn't really sure I'd be into it but boy was I wrong! I usually read Historical Romance and as much as I love my Dukes and Duchesses I was in the mood for something a little different so I decided to listen to the first installment of The Black Dagger Brotherhood and it wasn't long before I was totally hooked on the delicious warrior vampire brothers and actually went on and listened to the whole series in order. Dark Lover was one of my favorites in the series. This book tells the story of Wrath (the vampire king) and Beth his beloved. What I love about this series is that even though each book focuses on one specific relationship there is a lot more going on with other characters and relationships at the same time. The narrator that was chosen for this series is one of the best I have heard and he made the books even better. I highly recommend.
So many books...so little time! :)
This really was a good paranormal romance that had a new spin on vampires than most books. There are a lot of great characters in here, not to mention the bothers themselves. ;) All of them seem to have a story waiting to come out, and while it gets hard to keep track of them all, I am anxious to learn more about them in the books to come.
Dark Lover focuses on the king, Wrath, and Beth, the daughter of one of deceased brothers. He is supposed to help her through her change, and while he plans for this to be a quick ordeal, everything changes for the both of them when they meet.
I was not really impressed with the narration. His voice grows on you, don't get me wrong. I wish, though, that the voices were more distinct from character to character, and the timing from chapter to chapter or from storyline to storyline was very inconstant and was confusing at times!
Overall, though, I thought this was a great book...not to mention a great start to a new series! I think I'm becoming a JR Ward fan! So its off to the next. :)
I love reading but don't have time. The audiobooks allow me to hear the books I want to read. I love audible!
I like this book but it is not the best of the series. It took me awhile to get into the story. But once I got into the book it was a good story. Wrath and Beth love is unique.
Wrath and Beth storyline and I love Butch he is the best character
I think I would have liked a better narrator
No, it would be to dark
Say something about yourself!
I happened upon this book during one of the audible sales around Halloween and I have to say THANK YOU audible! I was a bit daunted with how many books were in this series, but I told myself that I would try the first one for $6, what did I really have to lose….and I actually gained SO MUCH! This has become my favorite series of all time, with the Doomsday Brethren series a close second. The world J.R. Ward has imagined is full of richness and uniqueness and subtle intricacies that would have driven me nuts to keep up with, but the books ARE consistent, and wonderful to listen to. It’s nice to be able to escape to the Black Dagger Brotherhood world on my long commute home…HIGHLY recommended!
This is the book that started it all. The Black Dagger Brotherhood is the model that so many authors try to copy. Good vs, Evil, but in this case, Good is a kick butt group of vampire warriors that no woman can resist. Try this book, and see what all the rest are trying to achieve.
Really good introduction to the brotherhood. Keeps you wondering. I love to listen and imagine the scenes in my mind. J. R. Ward is one of my favorite authors.
Beth is very intuitive and I love her tenacity. The independence she carries speaks volumes for her character.
I love how he interprets Fritz's character. It's so very different than the other characters.
Love, lust and power: like you've never imagined.
Grandma bibliophile! Audible books make reading with an active life possible.
This first book was unique enough as a romance novel, that the romance part of it was sort of just there. I really ended up liking the characters, and it was an interesting concept for a vampire story. There are the typical "romantic" interludes, which to me began to sound the same in all of the books quite quickly, but the stories around those scenes were good enough for me to get past that. This book is about Wrath, the reluctant king of the vampires, and his friend's half-blooded daughter, who Wrath is initially reluctant to help. After Darius, the friend, is killed he feels obligated and of course has to help her, reluctant or not, and falls in love with her. The side characters have some depth to them, and I actually found myself wanting to read the rest of the series. (which I did)
I generally don't like romance novels, basically because it's a regurgitation every time of a man and a woman with horrible communication skills. They don't get along but are really attracted to each other, and by the end of the book the physical attraction, and firework sex, gets them to the point they can talk, and eventually live happily ever after. This book does have some of that, but the story itself was pretty good, and I liked the narrator. I don't recall having heard Jim Frangione before, but his performance was more than adequate. I don't know that I'd put him up there in the top 5, but he never irritated me with mispronunciations and some of the other things that some narrators do, which keeps him off of my "not going to listen to that guy again" list.
Fun great story with a new twist on on old story. It was fun to listen as the story unravels. Characters are well articulated individuals - gotta get the next one,
This book reminds me of King of Thrones because the twists and turns are so interesting.
The dark side of the story is well illustrated by his gravely deep voice.
When our lovers - - love.
This looks to be great new series to get to meet and know a new cast of characters.
