This book was really good, but I have to tell you some of the plot was a bit far fetched. If you fell asleep or lost your focus you had to back track to see what you might have missed. The plots were at times too twisted to be believed but entertaining anyway.
Loved this audiobook! I usually figure out the plot in the first quarter of a book but not this one. What may have been confusing for others was a thrill for me. I found myself sitting in the driveway for 30 minutes after I turned the car off. THAT is the reason I never bring an audiobook inside, I would never get anything done. The only sections I didn't like were the file note reviews - they lasted forever and I tended to tune out. Other than that it would have been five stars. I highly recommend this one.
One of my first buys, and it really delivered. Lots of intrigue and twists and turns. You can't go wrong.
Always kept my attention.
The pace of the book and the plot twists made this book a good choice. i'm glad i used a credit towards it, and will be reading another deaver book soon.
This book has more twists and turns than imaginable. It is easy to listen to and it holds your attention to the very end. Great pick.
I don't understand why writers do a few great books and then lose it. Honestly. I'm a painter, and I don't imagaine ever running out of things to paint -- but then, I know zilch about writing.
But I can count on less than 5 fingers the number of mystery writers who can keep my interest after 5 books. PD James and Anne Perry come to mind.
So -- this is Deaver is uneven, verbose, and uses several conceits (I think that's the word) that drive me nuts. Like telling us the time every 5 paragraphs. Like the last ten minutes or the next 10 are so tense and suspenseful that we must be mindful of the clock. (inside joke for those who've slogged thru it) It's a slog, and I'm not even going to finish it -- highly unusual for me.
I usually prefer unabridged editions, but the editor must have fallen asleep on this one. It should be about 1 1/2 hrs instead of 12.
This book seemed to be over when I still had 6 more hours to hear. What started as an interesting plot eventually devolved into a mess of plot twists and absurd surprises. I was very disappointed in this book, and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
On top of those complaints, Deaver's not-so-subtle political digs are annoying as well. Pass on this one.
