Love to get a book that I can't stop reading. I love page turners
I got this book because it was on sale and I had read a lot of Roberts books in the past. This turned out to be one I had read before and didn't realize it when I purchased it. Then I remembered this is the book I read first and fell in love with the author.
Just love the team work between these two "heroes". Daniels is a great storyteller. Another great story of Mr Crais. And Pike falling in love just make me want to listen to more of Mr Crais sequel of Pike. Can someone please make a movie out of these novels please.
The best writers know when we get the picture, that anticipation can be far more terrifying than descriptions of grizzly acts.
" I will see no harm comes to her", Joe Pike tells the billion father of a hard-partying young heiress who's life is in danger after a wrong place, wrong time encounter.
It's Pikes turn in this novel to take center stage while P I partner Elvis Cole supports him, providing the humor and savvy repartee that our hero humanoid often lacks.
On the run from the shadowy, violent enemy, the lovely but precocious young woman guarded by Pike. proves to make the job more challenging but she also suggests a reality check for Joe.
Fiercely focused,Pikes keeps us on the run and often purposely running in the direction of the deadly enemy.
Great detective tech work, enough grit to please crime readers. The rich styling of the L.A. background makes appealing reading.
Believable characters doing the unbelievable and the abundance of twists and turns is icing on cake.
Crais has added insight to two people who are coming to odds with the self image that has consumed their lives.
Well done Mr. Crais !
Interesting story. At times hard to follow. I'm not sure if this is due to the narrator or the actual story. The narrator makes Joe Pike sound very odd. Other Joe Pike stories I have listened to must have had other narrators, because I had a very different picture of Joe in my head, and it was a much fuller personality, not so stilted. The last chapter was very confusing and unnecessary.
I will listen to more Joe Pike stories, but ones with a different narrator.
I Really enjoyed this book and I liked the fact that it made Pike a little more human. I always recommend this series to all my friends!! Moving on to the next one.
I think a great deal of people will like the book.
Somewhat predictable or not surprising. The part I like is Pike is willing to break the law for justice etc. Pike and Cole are a good team.
He did a fine job, I have liked him in other books. I kept thinking the book would have been better if Ray Porter had performed it. His speed was a little fast for me.rt
I love Joe Pike and Elvis Cole novels and have read all books in the series up to this point. I wish Crais would have developed " the girl"'s (as Joe refers to her, almost never using her name, which to me doesn't speak of much warmth towards her from Pike, through no fault of his own, owing to his upbringing) personality more and had more intense conversations together. That he would fall in love with her is not believable to me. and whatever happened to his old partner, Was's, wife? I'd love to see him end up with someone good. Being a loner and almost a mute doesn't bode well for him, though, in the long lasting type of relationship. Maybe there's someone out there just perfect for him and vice versa, good luck, Joe. We love you, anyways!
Lost interest in this one. Pike is so closed he never develops any relationships other than Cole. He does show feelings but it's too little for the listener to care.
