I loved this book. It kept my attention completely. I love the narrator. He is perfect for this book. Being from Texas, his accent seems totally appropriate to me and certainly adds to the book. The dialog sounded spot on and very familiar coming from the South. I am happy to see that this author and narrator teamed upon another selection. Can't wait to listen to it.
The story contained so many twists and turns and subplots
Finally uncovering the mystery of who completed the murders
I have not listened to this reader before, but his voice is perfect
There were many moments in this book that surprised
Listen to this book - it will hold you captive throughout the entire book. There are so many plots and subplots that youare always engrossed in the story.
John Hart is a wonderful writer. His story is complex and full of characters that interest and fascinate. I first read "The King of Lies" and loved every word. It's the same with this book. Some of the other review criticized the narrator, however, I found is voice rich and reflective of the setting of the novel.
Kudo's for John Hart, a wonderful writer.
John Hart's award winner is a great read (listen). Smart, detailed, twists, full of ambience. My only complaint is that the character's anger is splashed, and the conceit used, a bit too much. It all ties well in the end, and the form may be a bit more natural in print, but it is noticeable in audio. Still, I'd only take .5 off--it's a great book to enjoy.
There are a few author that I purchase because I am confident that they won't disappoint me. "The Color of Law" was awesome.... and now "Down River" I am anxiously awaiting Hart's next release.
It was a book that both my husband and I were able to enjoy. Not girly-girly and not manly- manly, just right.
We were traveling 10 hours from home one way, and we were able to listen to the 1st half on the way there and the second half on the way home. The only problem was that the MP3 lost its charge 3 chapters from the end of the book - my husband was horrified.
I no longer live in Worcester. I now live in Brooklyn, NY.
While I enjoyed the story( the characters were well developed) I don't think I will recommend it to anyone.
