If you like crass and detailed analysis of celebrity female body parts, then this is for you. If you want more intelligent humor, try Dave Barry's I'll mature when I'm dead, Tina Fey's Bossy pants, or anything by Paula Poundstone.
Finally a book that don't sugar coat the bullsh-t of life said only like Denis Leary can. I have listened to this book three times now and still enjoy it. Grant he didn't mean for this book to be educational but I truly believe that this book should be read by every high school graduate, just to clear the crap off there mind that everyone else has put in it. Good reality check.
Denis Leary has out done himself. This book is not for the people who take everything personally. It's a quick and easy read. Denis really lets his voice through and it's even better that he is reading his own book! It's an amazing, hilarious and fun book. Watch out because there are a few f bombs! Amazing
Dr. Dennis Leary discusses his upbringing and the American way of life in his own funny way. He goes a bit over the line a few times but it is still worth spending an afternoon to listen to.
I really liked this book. Not loved it, but really liked it. I have always found Denis funny and this book did not disappoint. Well... not much. It is not as edgy and raw as his early comedy but was like a little peak into the mans head and how he has evolved as a person.
I enjoy Dennis Leary, but I've learned, in small doses! I bought this book because I LOVED Steve Martin's autobiography "Born Standing Up" and thought it would be fun to listen to another celebrity read their book. Problem is that I'm a left-leaning woman, and "Dr." Leary's ranting just grated on my nerves. I know, I know, he says I need to grow a sense of humor, but I've heard it all before around the dining room table from my "holier-than-thou" (male) relatives! I could only listen for about 30 minutes and I had to turn it off. I'm thinking about deleting it...not sure I want to give it another try or not. So, beware, if you're a woman with liberal leanings, this might not be the book for you.
If you love Denis Leary, you’ll love this audio book. It’s five hours of Leary’s acerbic ranting about everyone from The Pope to Al Gore to Rush Limbaugh. He does love his family and Oprah. The profanity is not for the faint of heart. If, like me, you can take a little of Denis Leary in small doses and like to change the channel when you’ve had enough of him, this is too much Leary. To paraphrase the author, “Open ***. Insert head. What the **** was I thinking?”
