This book was so incredibly interesting and inspiring! It again makes the same point that many audio books I have read make and that is that one can use music to escape the darkness that life can bring.
I could listen to this book again. Simon Vance was the perfect narrator. I knew it was not EC reading the book, but Vance made you believe it was.
I enjoyed much of the Yardbirds and Cream years of the book. Also, the scenes at EC's house where he and other musicians were jamming and hanging out.
If I had the time, I could have listen to the entire book at once.
I can appreciate that drugs and alcohol were unfortunately an important part of EC's life and he felt he had to include all of it, but I would have traded 50 pages of his vices for 50 more pages of discussion of his music.
Just a great read. Good insight into his past, his demons and what ultimately kept him going and why he still is entertaining fans today.
From what I have read about Clapton it was accurate and more of a confession of past sins etc.
A must read for any Clapton fan.
I enojoyed this book from the beginning. The narrator is absolutely fantastic and makes it feel like Clapton himself is reading this life to you. Many times Clapton let his ego transform him into a complete ass. His various battles with addiction and lack of respect for women in his life all seem to stem from a real deep place as never being accepted as a child from his mother.
Not being around in the 60's i loved hearing the behind the scenes look into the road life and how he interacted with other major bands at the time.
I highly recommend this book.
Used to love Eric Clapton, I still appreciate him. Just never realized what a narcissist he was.
A Must Read for anyone interested in Classic Rock artists. Clapton's story is an amazing insight into a deeply troubled but incredible artist and influence to millions of boomers. The fact that he survived the 60's-80's is one thing but his turnaround and family focus is God given.
Great book! Didn't realize he been clean for 20 yrs or a Christian. On to next rock bio! Note to Eric. Sell the blue guitar.
