I liked the main character Tom who must learn to fight witches, ghosts, and other things that go bump in the night. He has integrity, and even when he is afraid he chooses to do the right thing to help others. The narrator did a good job of making each character come to life.
I enjoyed the entire series but none more than "The Revenge of the Witch." (The others are sequels.) "Revenge" has the cleverest plot and the most emotion; a real warmth about it. While all may not agree with me on that, most will agree that this book is the one to read first. It opens the series and introduces the main characters, gradually letting you get to discover their mysteries along with Thomas; especially the Spook, Alice, and mam. Great fun, and you don't have to be 13...
Marvelous performance by the narrator.
I enjoyed the movie The Seventh Son and was interested to know what the books were like. This first book in the series introduces us to Tom Ward, a much younger version of the apprentice than depicted in the movie. Master Gregory, Mother Malkin, Alice, Bony Lizzie, Tusk, and boggarts appear in this book with a very different story line than that of the movie. I thought it was a fair introduction and will check out the second book in this series to see if Tom's continued training with the Spook will introduce other magical creatures as in the movie. It was a little scary to listen to before bedtime so this is a different type of book than I'm used to reading.
Simply Farm girl from Montana. I love books, books with strong characters and strong females. Also happy endings.
Great book very well imagined and a nice ghost story. Excited to read (listen to) the rest of the series.
Thus far it is like Harry Potter. A young boy with a gift and a purpose that he as yet has no clue how to use or focus in order to fight for the greater good mostly he is succeeding by accident.
I didn't appreciate the random background music. He makes Alice's character sound sneaky and sarcastic instead of sweet or even innocent. If a girl talked to me in that way with that tone of voice i wouldn't trust her
Haven't finished the book still have about an hour left. at this time I am really worried about Elly and the baby.
