I love J. D. Robb! The series gets better and better. The side characters are quite interesting and surprising. It is always exciting. The lave story between Eve and Roark gets better and better.
In all the "In Death" books, Eve has certain quirks; she overworks herself & gets teed off when anyone suggests she take a break, she bites people's heads off when they make friendly overtures because she wasn't shown love when she was growing up, she freaks out when aspects of the murder make her relive her childhood abuse. It's part of the formula, and if you don't mind repetition, the way Robb spins out the formula can make enjoyable books.
However, in this one Eve is just intolerably abusive to her long-suffering friends & Roarke. They seem like dumb masochists for putting up with her childish stupidities, because her obnoxiousness is really over the top, to the point of viciousness. She's just too mean to put up with this time.
I can listen to the "In Death" books repeatedly, after I let some months pass, because they're basically brainless fun and the details just drain out of my ears over time (kind of like Robin Cook), and because Susan Erickson does such an excellent job that they're a pleasure for the ears. I'm going to make a note to myself to not ever listen to this one again, though, because I absolutely cannot stand Eve this time around.
I really enjoy going through events like the Holidays with Dallas & Roarke. This is a good book. Great series. I've read all of them; this is my third time through the series. It never gets old.
Always after books that read well in the tractor!
I was worried I would start getting bored with the books as I go through this series one by one, but Robb does not disappoint! While I have gotten used to the style (always knowing the main suspect is not the killer), this one surprised me with the murderer. Didn't see it coming.
I enjoyed the way the characters interacted with each other, and listening to Eve try to shop for Christmas was hilarious. It was also amusing to hear Peabody and McNab's bickering.
Overall, 5 stars!!
This was one of my favorite readings. It kept me on my toes the entire time. Loved it!
It was nail bitting
Every part of this book moved me
Good, great, grand! These books always keep me guessing and this one was no different! The perfect blend of mystery, suspense, and romance!
Definitely Dallas. Susan got the tone just right - exactly as I imagined her.
Have you been naughty, or nice?
If you are a fan of this series, you will enjoy this audiobook!
I enjoyed this mystery. The plot line was better than most.. I did figure out who-did-it.. well, mostly about 2/3 through the book.. but, still wasn't 100% sure!
Ms. Dallas, et al. appeared to me a bit more realistic in this installment, except for Roarke who is just not a real man, in my humble opinion! I wish, I could get dressed for a party in 5 minutes!! I liked the bit about the couple making their own holiday traditions. It was rather poignant.
Ms Robb used more of her characters here, and that was great. We got to know a bit more about them.
The narration was great, as usual!
Yes, this installment was worth the credit.
Yes, Good series
