Matheson has the power to construct a plausible reality, set up our expectations, and then put the pedal to the metal and run us down. We are caught in the headlights, unnerved and frozen, until the inevitable strikes, and we've been dragged a quarter mile down the road. Then he turns around for another pass. The most memorable stories: the one about the guy who gets angry all the time; the one about the bed-ridden lady (excellent reader!); and the one about the new guy in the neighborhood.
I wish I would have read further down on the reviews. The first several are very positive reviews. If I would have read further, I would see that this would be a waste of a credit/money/etc. I'm shocked that Stephen King who is one of my favorite authors would give this collection any kudos at all. Don't waste your money. I've not heard one horror story/scary story and most don't even make sense. Sigh......... have only made it through 6 stories so far. May not be able to continue.
These are some of the worse stories I have heard. They remind me of the ramblings of the mentally ill. Some didn't even make sense to me. A big waste of money. I gave it one star because that was the lowest I could give it.
This was without doubt the worst collection of short stories that I have ever read although I must admit that I gave up on the book after the first 6 or 7 stories. I could not believe that the rest would be any better. A load of crap and a waste of a credit!
I started and quit on this 2 part book several times, before I finally suffered through to the merciful end. There are plenty of better syfy authors to choose from. DON'T waste your credit!
