This book was good enough if you didn't have high expectations. I needed a fun Christmas story to listen to in December. It worked for me.
I really liked the sounds and descriptions of the train. It made me feel like riding a train somewhere myself some day.
I would recommend it if anyone is looking for a light-hearted, but somewhat mysterious Christmas story for the holidays.
Yes, when I first started to listen to the story it was a little slow to start but I was intrigued by the different characters that we met on the train. The more that I listened I started to connect with Tom and all that he experienced on the train! I loved the ending...it completely surprised me!!
I listened twice!
love comes to true loves eventually, no matter how much time goes by
Great with all the voices!
I laughed, cried & hung on to my seat.
loved the additional sounds, music, train, ect....
Great mystery, love story, and train lover's dream.
Too many to detail. Memorable moments throughout.
You would lose too much of the story to make a film.
My wife is a reader, but I got her to listen to the audio book. I keep it to listen to when I want light hearted great listening.
A good narrator can make a mediocre book come alive. I love having a story read to me - it's a wonderful escape.
This story is the perfect Christmas read with just the right balance of holiday magic and interesting story. I listen to this every year and follow it up with Baldacci's Skipping Christmas. You can't ask for better writing or better performances.
Once again this author has demonstrated why his books continue to be on the best seller lists. This is an easy listen, full of adventure, romance and comedy. It would make a great first listen gift for anyone-young or old and might get them hooked on Audible!
I got this for a "feel good" book, which it is. But the reader's interpretation of women's voices makes them all seem vapid and silly. This in turn makes the book seem even more trivial. There are much better readers around.
I am not an avid book reader (or listener), don't take my opinions too strongly... this book was a "fun" listen, but wasn't that great. If you want a cute story that is very predictable but will make you feel warm and tingly... go ahead and get it.
OK, so I bought this on sale for some light seasonal reading while I was doing Christmas prep last year. I have never read anything by this author and after this one, I may never again.
After reading the synopsis I was not expecting or requiring great literature, but found this so trite and predictable and the characters, while not unlikeable, just too lightweight to hold my interest.
The premise was nice - a writer taking a train cross country at Christmas and all of the "fascinating people he encounters." My reading has gotten me used to more substantial stuff and I couldn't even finish this one. I truly tried, mainly because I bought it and if I bought a book, the frugal side of me says I must finish it. There are just too many good books out there to be wasting time on fluff like this.
