That it was as good as I had hoped given the geniuses who wrote it.
I don't know, I liked the whole thing.
Unique and wonderful voices for all the characters. He really brings them to life.
Demons, Angels, witches, telephone salesmen and the end of the world.
You will not regret getting this book.
I'd read the book many years ago but I can honestly say I enjoyed the audio version more, I looked forward to being stuck in traffic, absolute pleasure to listen to.
An anazingly funny story by two brilliant authors about the end of the world, brought to life by the talents of Steven Briggs.
"My fav book is a fab audible listen!"
Yes, it is my fav book I have read and I love all the quirky characters and the world they inhabit. I love everything that happens and that when you get to the end you want to re-read immediately.
I love the diskworld series by Prachett and it has elements of that but also the humour and language found in Gaiman books, if you like anything by these two authors then I highly recommend this book!
Having read the book lots I found it odd that all these voices Briggs was creating were not the way they had sounded in my head, obviously, however after a while I got so use to his versions that I hear them now rather then my own voices. He brings the multitude of various accents and characters alive for me and I loved his voice by the end.
The end of the world is coming but lets have a cuppa first.
I loved this audio version and it is one of those books that even if you don't think one aspect is working or too different from another by the end of the story when it all comes crashing together you realise how perfect it is.
"Silly and funny"
At times (mostly) it has very good humour (laugh out loud) but at other times it becomes a bit detailed and dull. Sometimes it borders with silly. It's not a book you can finish in one reading - as you couldn't read a book of anecdotes for 10 hours... And the longer you listen to it, the sillier it feels, so you need to make pauses rather often to enjoy it again...
But I have to say the narrator is just amazing! Fits the book very well and feels like he's a born comedian himself. And I totally recommend the audio version - I think he brings the book to life.
"Humour of the book w/footnotes does NOT translate"
Nope. This is probably best read from a printed copy of a paper book. The efforts of the narrator were much appreciated and it was a stellar performance. However, much of the humour was lost. I can only give it three stars but cannot help suspecting that the reviewers on amazon.com from the printed version are correct and it is a good book if read from print.
Buy a printed copy, don't get the audiobook on this occasion despite the convenience.
"Buy the book, not this recording."
I actually love this book. I first read it when I was twelve, and have reread it every few years since. It gets funnier each time as I find more things to enjoy in it. And I get way more of the jokes than I did when I was twelve!
But. I think this is a terrible recording. It's great that it's unabridged, but the reader really is poor. There are mispronunciations, which is unforgivable, many slurred words and poor diction, and his vocal interpretation of the characters are, to my mind, crap. Aziraphale as some kind of aging Essex boy? Crowley as a slightly younger Essex boy? Anathema as some kind of female Farmer Giles? And the children, who live in an Oxfordshire village, as sort-of Cockney urchins? Oh dear.
Buy the book, it's marvelous. But seriously, don't bother with this audio version. I returned it. (Audible allows you to do this, bloody good thing I say!)
YES without doubt The story was brought to life
Terry Pratchets Mort type flavour
Brilliant voices, animated story telling performed meticulously I love him
Yes but long enough to have breaks .
Delighted I bought it .
"Amazing Hilarious Awesome"
I wish I could have sat and listened to it all through! I listen to audiobook to make my insomnia more fun and at some points was glad I got to stay awake so long so I could keep listening!
"Fantastic, so pleased to have stumbled across this"
I love all the Neil Gaiman books I have listened to so far, I was nervous about this collaboration as I haven't ever gotten as lost in Terry Pratchett stories. I was not disappointed.
This was so random, funny and an absolute joy to listen to. I will certainly be listening to this again when I need a good laugh and have recommended this to friends already.
Thank you Mr Pratchett and Mr Bauman.
