I like unabridged novels. When I first joined Audible, many were abridged. That has changed. Non-fiction, politics, bios are favorites
Double Whammy is another great listen. There is great literature and then there is great audible. There are very few books that make me laugh out loud as much as a Carl Hiaasen book read by George Wilson. You wonder where he gets his characters and then you read about the bank robber who used his own bank deposit slip to write the holdup note and you know-they are us. Some of us at least.
I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!
Carl Hassen does not write great novels; he writes excellent funny thrillers. George Wilson is the perfect narrator to act out a Hassen novel.
Double Whammy is about the huge business of big mouth bass fishing tournaments. There is a lot of creative cheating going on, but the cheaters do not always win. It is a good break from the serious thrillers I usually read.
Good story but the constant audible swallowing of the narrator detracted from presentation. He'd be good if he stopped swallowing saliva every 10 seconds.....
This is my first Hiaasen novel, and I'll buy more. I really loved this book. The couple of main characters were colorful and believable and likable and just fun to follow. The action and mystery were engaging, and I was invested to see what happened. The best part was the humor. It was disrespectful and surprising and mixed perfectly with some of the dark things that happened through the story. I also loved the little bit of romance. The ending was great too. The narrator Wilson did a great job, he disappeared nicely into the background and let the story shine. I've already recommended this book to a couple of friends.
The narration was so terrible I could not enjoy the story. Ever time I was getting into the story Mr. Wilson swollowed irrating me so much I became distracted. I will never buy another audiobook George Wilson is narrating! I primarily paid to listen the narrator's body functions!
Dept Q, Harry Hole... where are you?
This is one of the first stories involving Skink, the ex Florida governor who went crazy in the Everglades. It explains how he lost his eye as well.
This is a nonstop laugh riot with unforgettable characters caught up in each other's own irony.
I loved "Skinny Dip", which led me to buy "Double Whammy". I was not disappointed. It is loaded with satire, all kinds of wacky characters, lots of action, lots of laughs. This is nothing you could take seriously, just good fun. Although the characters are totally off-the-wall, the protagonists are also likeable, which is important to me.

I think the narrator did a good job reading a great book. Totally fun, totally engrossing, and (unfortunately) so twisted that it's nearly believable.
One day while listening to this book on my ipod at the gym I was laughing so hard i(it was during the "pitbull head as a braclet")someone asked my if I was okay. I nearly wet myself. I just loved the book. So funny! I have listened/read some real crappy mystery audiobooks and I was getting discouraged. I took a chance on this book. Well worth it!
This is only the second work by this author -- it won't be last. It is a pleasure to drive and be compelled to laugh out loud while still being challenged to think about important issues. I highly recommend this book.
