The narrator pours on a Georgia accent so thick and syrupy you have to remind yourself that the story is in Louisana. Then she tries her version of a Gaelic accent. She isn't just bad -- she's horrendous! It's like listening to a native of the Hindu tongue trying to imitate a Scotsmen. If a narrator can't do accents believably and well, they shouldn't do them at all.
I enjoy these goofy, wackadoodle, rewrite mythology, bend it to urban fantasy romances. They are fun and light hearted with a touch of adventure to keep the love story moving. Sherrilyn Kenyon likes to make their childhood or young adulthood traumatic -- and that is a bit overly repetitive, but the humour and romance compensate well. Light listening. If you take your mythology of monsters and gods seriously, avoid these stories.
Sherrilyn Kenyon yes, Carrington MacDuffie no. Sherrilyn needs to cut out of her books her porn addiction and rely on her story telling skills. Carrington needs to stick with woman voices only.
Not the right narrator for this book or series.
I absolutely loved this!! the story itself was amazing just like the one before it! The narrator is very talented at doing all the voices! I'm so hooked on this series now, time to start the next one immediately!
A reviewer at Guilty Indulgence Review Site. I don't go anywhere without a book -ebook or audiobook.
Kenyon's Dark Hunter world is growing bigger (and hotter) with this second book. If you like paranormal romance, this is a must read. And on audio, they are even more sexy with the character's accents done with professional narration. Readers are swept into this fantastical world. *Important to read this series in order*
Paranormal-urban fantasy book lover!
This is the 3rd book in the DH series and as I read the reviews about the narrator and Sunshines voice, I don't get it. I think the narrator dos a great job with all the different accents and with Sunshines voice too. We can't have all the women sound exactly the same and I think it is unique to her and her personality.
This story is about Talon and Sunshine (a reincarnated version of his wife from thousands of years ago). It also gives us insight into Acheron, Styx and Zarek. Zarek is the next book in the series!!! I know we have a narrator change next book but I'm excited for it.
Is this book worth a credit?? --- YES
I wanted to like this book. I'd listened to one of Ms Kenyon's related YA books and enjoyed it. Not so with this book. I might have liked it better without this particular reader, but not by much. The plot was very choppy with some parts only barely related to others...we now interrupt the story with a hard right turn and subplot. Take as many paranormal idead, gods, vampires, weres...whatever, throw em in a blender and make a nice pot of Gumbo. And the reader. She did a great job differentiating the characters, but the tone of voice and horriffic accent used forSunshine and some others made my ears bleed. Fake accents, especially to someone who has ever been to that part of the country...no. Just no.
