Skipping Christmas is a wonderful book for the season. There is more then enough humor is the story, but it isn't just slap-stick humor. And while it is a very different story from the normal Grisham books, it is great. The ending also leaves one feeling lifted, and brings a "true spirit of Christmas". I loved the book.
Not my favorite, good for a few laughs and ended warm and fuzzy. I listened to this while in Mexico "Skipping Christmas" otherwise I may not have finished it. Something to do on the beach while drinking margaritas.
This did have a nice wrap up, but I felt I was wasting my time on a citcom book, but I guess that is why I was on the beach.
I don't watch much TV. If you like citcom TV you may really enjoy this one.
I gave this book a listen the year it was released. I was not sure what to expect but I can say I was pleasantly surprised. A book like this is not meant to change the world or be accurate in all of it's detail, I mean after all it IS a fictional story. This is like a situation comedy that was very well written and delivered what I expected...entertainment. If you want to just simply enjoy a short novel and laugh at some crazy doings..go for this one.
Amusing story line. Makes one realize just how many hoops we jump through for the blessed holiday. Although, skipping Christmas might seem like a good idea, skipping this book is not.
Unrealistic and stretching belief in many parts to make the plot work. Below standard for an accomplished writer. The movie based on this book, "Christmas w/ the Kranks", did poorly too.
This was the worst book ever; it was so dull and boring I can't believe I wasted 3 discs to burn it. I suffered through the first boring half, then for one moment it became interesting- but it turned out to just be the same boringness in reverse. I had to quit listening before the end of the second disc. I couldn't stand it a second longer and I wish I hadn't wasted so much time hoping it would get interesting. The story is moronic, the characters are one-dimensional and unlikeable, and I can't believe this book is being made into a movie. For the first time in my life, I am hoping Hollywood strays completely from the storyline or it will be the dullest movie ever made.
A very good narration. Plenty of humor and a great story about the bonds between friends and neighbors. I've listened to it twice.
Athough this is definitely different from what Grisham is known for, it was a fun, lighthearted book. I enjoyed it. I laughed out loud a few times and as a parent of children leaving the nest I really could associate with what happened in the end.
This novel was a very pleasant surprise. Grisham breaks out of all his molds and creates a lovable set of characters in a zany comedy. It was fun to listen to around holiday time, and may become a family tradition in my house.
Yes, the storyline is not a deep as the usual Grisham thriller, and yes, the outcome was somewhat predictable, but listening to this one over the Christmas holidays was light, funny and I, personally, could identify with some of the various situations the characters got themselves into.
If you are looking for the typical John Grisham mystery, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a holiday classic, that is light and funny, this one is for you.
