I love listening to audibooks when doing those tasks that don't require a lot of brain power. They make the time go by fast!
I read this book when it came out, several years ago and have read it every year since. I love the message you can get out of the book and at the climax of the book, I always break out in a huge grin. Definitely a favorite of mine and always helps to get me in the Christmas Spirit whenever I listen.
I love the slightly cynical intonation the performer gives to the main character in this book. He reads it as I hear it in my mind.
hehe. Christmas with the Kranks? Actually, probably not. The movie does not do this book justice and the casting was not correct for how I envision the characters.
It was funny but not crude. It is especially funny because it is so easy to relate to.
The only other book I have read lately with this kind of humor would be THE HELP. I don't know that it would be fair to compare the two, but they both made me laugh.
There is a movie already made of this book and I did not enjoy it nearly as much as the book.

This is definately not a standard Grisham book but it is the funniest book I have ever read. I recommend this book to everyone of any age.
If you saw, "Christmas with the Kranks," you know the story. There is very little difference between the two. While the movie was funny and entertaining, using a lot of visual humor, the book was ponderous with bits of humor here and there. Nevertheless, an okay diversion for a walk around the block.
This was a very fun book. Some very funny tongue in cheek musings of american Christmas traditions. This is no great literature just some guilty pleasure.
I was disappointed in this book as I was looking forward to listening to a fun story as I walked our neighbor this Christmas season. It was okay - a bit corny - and I found myself wondering how many more chapters until it was finally over. I did have to hear the ending though. If it were made into a made-for-TV Christmas movie, I would watch it but this is not a book I would revisit.
Skipping Christmas is a wonderful book for the season. There is more then enough humor is the story, but it isn't just slap-stick humor. And while it is a very different story from the normal Grisham books, it is great. The ending also leaves one feeling lifted, and brings a "true spirit of Christmas". I loved the book.
Not my favorite, good for a few laughs and ended warm and fuzzy. I listened to this while in Mexico "Skipping Christmas" otherwise I may not have finished it. Something to do on the beach while drinking margaritas.
This did have a nice wrap up, but I felt I was wasting my time on a citcom book, but I guess that is why I was on the beach.
I don't watch much TV. If you like citcom TV you may really enjoy this one.
I gave this book a listen the year it was released. I was not sure what to expect but I can say I was pleasantly surprised. A book like this is not meant to change the world or be accurate in all of it's detail, I mean after all it IS a fictional story. This is like a situation comedy that was very well written and delivered what I expected...entertainment. If you want to just simply enjoy a short novel and laugh at some crazy doings..go for this one.
Amusing story line. Makes one realize just how many hoops we jump through for the blessed holiday. Although, skipping Christmas might seem like a good idea, skipping this book is not.
