I have listened/read all of the Sookie Stackhouse mysteries, 1 - 8. I enjoyed every single one of them. The writing is good, clear, suspenseful and humorous. The narrator, Johanna Parker, does some of the best narrating I have heard...exactly the way I would presume Sookie Stackhouse would sound. You can't go wrong with this series. I CAN'T WAIT until installment NINE!!
I'm a single Mom who LOVES to read and write novels
Charlaine Harris is one of my favorite authors. I have been listening and reading from the start of the Sookie series. This book has some things that make you think "Well no wonder ...". We get to meet some interesting new characters. And some VERY unexpected things happen. I do recommend that if you are thinking of starting the Sookie series that you start with an earlier book. Otherwise, you lose out on some really cool "oh my goodness" moments. I would and do recommend this series to EVERYONE who enjoys MaryJanice Davidson, Katie McAlister, and Laurell K Hamilton. Also, anyone who like the True Blood series on HBO. And check out her other series that begins with Grave Sight.
Thank goodness for Charlaine because now that LKH has turned into a romance, bodice ripper writer, Sookie with all her Southern charm and unpretencious bravado will have to take first chair from Anita.
I enjoyed every second of this book and I loved the narrator as well. I actually felt like I was there with them all and that is why I love books and audio books to begin with.
Don't miss this one... you will love it.
Sookie continues to develop as a character, becoming a little less wide-eyed, more complex, and still really lovable! I love the Sookie Stackhouse series, can't wait for the next one, can't wait for the HBO show, but a little nervous. Johanna Parker (narrator) IS Sookie, I don't know if I could listen to Sookie with anyone else's voice. I agree with other reviewers, start at the beginning and read them all - you won't be disappointed.
I think this book and the series are a great set of books. I like this narrated version, she did a good job with character aspect. I found it easy to listen to.
The first part of the book was a repeat of the other stories and quite boring. Every time she brought up something that had been covered in a prior book, she explained everything all over again. Way too much rehashing and if you hadn't read the prior books, you won't need to after reading this. The second part of the book was pretty good. Definitely worth the read if you liked her other books, but be prepared to be disappointed and bored with the first part.
