I was concerned about buying the book after reading the reviews, but honestly, the narrator is not bad at all. I have heard some really bad narration and it can destroy the experience, but this will not happen on this one.
Every time I read a new Shannara title I am amazed that Terry Brooks has yet again come up with new concepts to his magical world which now turns out to be our own future. I look forward to each and every new title he writes.
Logan Tom is my favorite character. His battle with personal demons as well as the demons trying to destroy humanity is well done.
I enjoyed having Phil Gigante be the narrator for all of the books that tell of the transition from our world to the world of Shanarra.
I agree with the other reviewers... after listening to Dick Hill do the first book... it is extremely hard to listen to Phil Gigante do this book... He reads it too fast.. I found myself rewinding to listen to parts again because of his speed. He was extremely dramatic at certain points that made me annoyed, it just sounded like overacting. I would have enjoyed this series much more if Dick Hill had continued with it.
Good book awful to listen to!
He's just awful its a crying shame he reads book three
Jumping into this series in the middle (this is the 2nd book) presented a little challenge at the beginning, but it didn't take too long before I was caught up with the characters and their plight. Now I'm anxious to see how it all resolves. I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 becasue it was a struggle at the start .. the book assumes you already know what has occurred and takes a little extra effort .. worth it but effort .. if you've not read the first installment.
At this point you really understand why the People of the modern age did not know anything about the elves. You also learn what caused the loss of the elven magics a great read.
