I didn't start enjoying this book until about halfway through - it was very slow and depressing at the beginning. The narrator seemed a bit dry and her voice wasn't very expressive, which I think would have made the story more interesting as an audiobook.
I love audiobooks. I love books, period. I can listen to just about anything ... it takes an awful lot to get me to give up on a book.
I gave up on this one.
It started off reasonably enough ... and then it got really, really strange. Now, I'm open minded and interested in all sorts of odd philosophical and metaphysical ideas, but ... wow, this just stopped making sense.
Not even worth it for free. Spare yourself.
For one man's skewed perception of life and what it's about, during and after.
Listening to this book was painful. Not to give away any moments for potential readers, but seriously? In a moment of intense emotional pain, a loving wife would yell YOU SELFISH BRAT! ?? Seriously?
If you make it that far, you'll know what I mean.
Lover of books, museums, art, movies, history, music, humor, animals, & often - even people.
I honetly don't know which was worse; the writing, the "plot" or the narration. After listening to hundreds of audio books, this was, hands down, the WORST. I listened to about two thirds of it before I could no longer stand the pain.
You definitely have to be in a certain place in your life and soul's growth to connect with this book, but if it calls to you, make sure to read / listen. My 11-year old son is a very old and wise soul and really loved this book, saying he couldn't wait for the audio to be released on the Author's new book, "Waiting for Autumn". (Maybe I'll have him read it to me instead of waiting, as I'm excited too to see how this story progresses.) The only thing I would change on the next audio is having a different reader (but we didn't get hung up on that and enjoyed the story immensely.)
I see the author has a new version of "Summer's Path" coming out in April, 2010 and we will look forward to seeing and hearing what's been added. Thanks Scott!
This is no more than an attempt to brainwash the listener into another's beliefs. It is incredible how many people, in this story, have the ability to tune their previous lives and all as if it was totally natural. I enjoy a well written story even if it is very hard to believe, I even watch those style of stories on TV, but this is poorly written with the same scenes happening to different people/animals. Sorry to be negative but this is not a story rather an advertisement for an extremely strange life belief.
