This book has something for everyone! A good story with mystery and intrigue with hot chemistry between the main characters. I loved all the nicknames in the story! Although it lulled a bit in the middle I really enjoyed it. I was lucky enough to get this book on sale but I think it's definitely worth a credit!
I read most of the Cynster novels in paperback, and now I am rediscovering them on audible and loving them just as much. I love the historical romance with a strong woman as the lead because most of the stories you hear are of the woman being meek. Never in a Laurens novel. This makes it a good book for me because I could not stand it if Honoria gave in and did not assert herself. Devil is so powerful in everything he does but Honoria posses a strong will but does not tame him, she makes him worship her.
I know everyone seems to like Simon Prebble...however, he sounds too old for some of the voices and when he is reading the love scenes...it sounds like he is announcing the Kentucky Derby!!! He goes so fast, it is hard to get into the emotions of the moment. Just my opinion.
I first listened to the Cynster series several years ago. I don't believe I read this one first, but the series was nearly responsible for my obsession with HEA historical romances all on its own..... beginning in London spiraling outward from there... and backwards thru time...
I still think that this series is wonderful, the characters strong and the plots (altho the pattern is similar...) intriguing. Stephanie Laurens has a way of weaving fun, mystery, and suspense together with love, family, and sex into a winning combination every time.
My one negative comment is the amount of time devoted to the sex scenes... while passionate and enthralling in all the right ways... there is only so much any book needs of the same scene playing out over and again taking way too much more time than needed... I actually found my attention wandering and even skipped ahead at one point. Great scenes but c'mon....
NARRATOR : Simon Prebble IS the voice of the Cynster males, and there is no arguing that point. His female voices aren't always all that feminine but it's easy to get used to. The only negative is that on several occasions (in any performance of his I have heard) his delivery gives the impression of a more mature, if not aged, character. But even that works out with such talented writing.
CREDITWORTHY? : YES!!!
HEAT FACTOR: Ouch! Steamy.....
I love the whole Cynster series.
The developement of their love for each other.
Simon Prebble is perfect for Stephanie Laurens stories. His voice makes the stories come alive.
I had read this book many, MANY years ago when the original first came out. I enjoyed listening to it again.
I would recommend if they just wanted a simple book to read
No not really
Simon Prebble was superb
This is a book for some quick fun but by no means what I would call good literature. The story isn't very good and at points gets quite redundant. The sex scenes also don't really do much to enhance the story either. It's not what I would call boring, though, and is good for a quick read.
Already loved the book and author, but Simon Prebble is the best narrator I have ever heard.
Yes. I'm not a big Regency romance fan, but I loved this book. Stephanie Laurens's characters really came to life for me.
There were too many to pick one I liked.
Excellent narration. I have a hearing problem, so I'm always a little leery when it comes to British narrators because I often find them difficult to understand. That wasn't the case here.
I just Love the Allure of a Great Romance...a Pair of Rose Colored Glasses...some Fine Wine, and a Subscription to Audible...
Get ready to be swept away by the Cynster family. A ‘Regency- Era Historical’ novel that includes amazingly captivating characters that are smart, clever, and funny, dealing within the confines of this historic time, and presentation that society has imposed. In the first Cynster Novel, Devil’s Bride: A Cynster Novel, we meet the ravenous, sensually masculine, Sebastian. He is the eldest Cynster cousin and England’s most eligible bachelor, nicknamed Devil by his nursemaid at the age of 3.
In comes Honoria Prudence Wetherby, a wonderfully intelligent, strong-willed woman, whom he meets during a precarious situation. He immediately determines that she, and no other, is to be his duchess. Honoria has other plans, however, and there lies the tension. Yummy!
This is a smart novel with engaging characters. The plot is stimulating and encompasses the “thrill of passion and a tangled romance” along with the element of a “who done it” mystery. Stephanie Laurens has moved to the head of my list as one of my favorite authors. I also enjoyed listening to Simon Prebble, and felt that he did an amazing job with the narration. I have already purchased, based on this novel, the next 5 in the series.
I know that I will not be disappointed. Over 15 hours of entertainment for 1 credit!! You can not beat it!
