I've listened to every one of the Harry Bosch novels, and frankly, I like them all. I especially love Bosch's character. Mickey Haller and Jack McEvoy (sp?) don't come close to Bosch. However, 9 Dragons is not among Connelly's best. As other people have said in their reviews, Bosch seems out of character and the plot has flaws. Len Cariou is the perfect narrator for Bosch (though Dick Hill is good) and the novel is a good listen. But if this is your first Bosch novel, don't form an opinion just based on this one. Go back and start at the beginning with The Black Echo (or Black Ice). Novels like Concrete Blonde, Trunk Music, the Last Coyote are among my all-time favorites.
Having listened to many audio books I can honestly say this book is one of the best if you are looking for a fast paced, action packed story filled with twists and unexpected outcomes. The author was successful in a making a very hard storyline believable. He obviously did his research in to Chinese culture and the Triads. If it were a movie it would similar to payback, or ransom. Really a great read and I was upset when it came to an end. Can't wait for the next one.
What can I say. I have listened to all of the Connelly "Bosh" novels. This was the best yet. Full of surprises. Listened to the whole 10+ hours in two days. Connelly keeps toping himself!

Another great book, different in some ways, but good different. This read shows Harry has a loving and gentle side. Great action, and some very interesting twists and turns. If you like Connelly you will really enjoy this book.
I've read most of Connelly's books and really enjoyed this one. It wasn't my favorite, however, going through the streets of Hong Kong with Harry was very entertaining. I enjoy seeing Harry a bit out of his element and humbled by some of his decisions. Also, check out some the MC's videos on his website showing him doing research in Hong Kong.
Because there are some reviewers who have a problem with the narrator...I thought I'd speak up. I love Len Cariou, he is perfect as Harry Bosch, and I've listened to all of his recordings of this series. I can't imagine anyone else able to convey Harry's thought process so well. The book is all about how Harry reasons every detail on the case. It is a slooow thriller....the best kind!
I kept thinking, Harry is getting too old for this. Classic Connelly, classic risk taking, the stakes are high = the life of his daughter. I am so interested to see where it goes from here.
