Patricia Briggs has achieved with the Mercy Thompson series what Charlaine Harris achieved with the Sookie Stackhouse series - great paranormal porn - just a different species, werewolf porn.
This installment has Mercy’s college roommate showing up which now confirms that she is not only a strong, independent woman but also a well-educated auto mechanic.
In this segment Briggs tosses a ghost and a vampire or two with severe power struggles and now we have the mixings for a serious plot.
Mercy is not afraid to stand up for herself, and can also sit tight and roll with the punches. She shows fear, but doesn't let it hold her down, and she's not afraid to ask for help.
Great book and now on to the fifth installment, “Silver Borne”, which I am sure I will love as much as this one.
Exciting, romantic, addictive.
Mercy of course!
She gives life to the characters, and make them more....
A must see!
If you haven't listened to anything of Patricia Briggs yet, do it!
I can and have read 50 books in 3 weeks.. I love to read but I also like to listen to the store as I go to sleep.
I love this series and it just keeps getting better and better. time to switch
I really like the narrator Lorelei King, she is great and has the perfect voice for her field. This book has a good pace and is sure to satisfy fans of the previous books based around Mercy Thompson!
I Love a great supernatural tale, a Love story, PNR, a Cool Mystery and Most Sci-Fi....if there are vampires, weres or witches in it, that's a plus! Basically I am a 40+ y/o young at heart woman rediscovering the wonderful world of books and am now addicted! Lol I LOVE AUDIBLE!!!!!
The whole thing was great.....I love the descriptive words Patricia Briggs uses...she writes in a way that challenges a reader to expand there vocabulary and enjoy it!!!
Mercy of course.....but I do love Stephen and Adam too...
shes just perfect for this character....
It was a pure joy from minute one...
on my way to #5 now!!! lol
As a fantasy/sci-fi listener and reader, I tend to be finicky with my selections. I downloaded this based on reader response, and was not disappointed. Well plotted with developed and interesting characters, the book also offers thoughtful insights and a spontaneous sense of humor.
I love this series, and the narrator does a great job with the voices. I can't wait for the 6th book to come out in January 2011.
Married, middle-age, owner of 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a messy house.
First, it IS important to read this series in order. Second, I am really enjoying Mercy's stories. My only problem is that these stories don't have any slow spots, so it's very difficult to find a place in the books where I can stand to put it down and get some sleep! The characters have a lot of depth and are well described. The narrator has done very well, being consistent with voices and reasonable with accents. Stephan's accent could be less "bad vampire movie" -ish and more Italian, and I imagined Adam with a deeper voice when I read the first book in paper format, but a human voice can only be so flexible. She gets the humor in the right places with different touches for each character in such a way that I've laughed out loud several times. A few times I heard laughter in her voice when she was describing a scene, but it added to the experience of listening to the book - it didn't detract. I'm not sure why anyone would give any book in this series a low score just because they didn't like the narrator, unless they had already decided in their heads what each character should sound like and simply disagree with how Lorelie King chose to portray the characters. To me, that still would not justify a low score - these stories are great! I'm looking forward to books 5 and 6, as well as Patricia Brigg's other books. As soon as I catch up on my sleep.
The Mercy Thompson books are good and only get better. The narrator is strong and makes the story come alive. If you haven't entered this world you're in for a treat. !My only regret is I'll have to wait for the next installment!
