I rate 5 (Loved it!) 4 (Really liked it!) 3 (Liked it!) 2 (Didn't really like it!) 1 (Hated it!) I never rate a book before I finish it!
This book was ok. Too much sex or talk of having sex with half human~half seal, half human~half octopus, goblins etc. etc. and other weird ass stuff. Just not my kind of book. The narrator /production was fine.
I forced myself to give this book a chance and listened until the halfway point. 8 hours in, it still has not gotten better. The story is not developed very well and halfway through the book, I can't stand the protagonist of the story, which is told from her point of view. A lot of crazy things happen with minimal explanation and I just cannot bring myself to even finish this book. There is a ton of sex, which is normally great, however, the sex in this story doesn't have any rhyme or reason behind it. I do not recommend this book.
If you're looking for soft porn, no judgement, this is great. If you are looking for a story then don't purchase any of this author's books after the first few Anita Blake books. I have given them several tries and am finally done. If I could give fewer than one star I would.
This book is pure entertainment of the adult kind. The type of book for the nerdy goth girl who may find herself a housewife. It is housewife porn. I find this series extremely fun. What is fun about it you ask, well it is dark and sexy. There are many handsome men to choose from. For the most part our female hero can take care of herself.
I guess if it had turned into some sort of...novel version of a music half way through...you know, just so something of any interest whatsoever happened?
Maybe had an actual plot and not just fawned over the boys she made for the main character to bone down on...
I loved how the narrator made any of the larger, deeper-voiced men sound like old women who enjoyed their Pall Malls.
I have to admit, as opposed to LKH's dreadful Anita Blake series, she actually managed to write a main character I liked, and wasn't just a sociopath with no redeeming qualities. God I am so glad people can't contact me through these reviews, otherwise I'm pretty sure what I just wrote might get me killed...
Let me be clear...I love and hate Laurell K. Hamilton's..."literature." She writes the food equivalent of junk-food. She has a knack when it comes to creating characters you will fall in love with. And if you read her books just to listen to what sexy things she has to say about your favorite hunk, then I guess she'll just tickle you pink. However, when it comes to writing a book with an interesting, well paced plot, it has become clear that she has no clue what she is doing.
This book is possibly one of her worst paces books I can recall. I am not joking when I say that the plot of this ENTIRE BOOK, feels like the first quarter of any other book. It's all just one big set-up, with a heavy focus on character introduction. Heavy like a mountain made of lead. Nothing happens. Yes, "things" happen to the character, but plot-wise, it is literally just an introduction to a series that basically existed as LKH's outlet to write more smut.
There is no attention to plot, the setting, or any sort of focus narrative. It's all just introducing an frankly underwhelming, over-arching plot and learning about all of the characters. I guess if you were dying to see Hamilton finally write some pseudo-tentacle porn, here you go. Have a ball. Otherwise, even in the world of supernatural junk-food "thrillers," this book is hardly worth your time. You're better than this.
Tell us about yourself!
I would give it 4 stars for erotica and 3 stars for the actually story. Just depends on what you're looking for!
Love the audio version best. There are names of people and locations that are difficult to pronounce. Audio takes that stress away from me.
This series isn't for the bashful or shy. I wouldn't describe myself using either of those adjectives and yet... I find I become just a bit when listening to this story! ;)
