This was the first, but definitely not the last Sandra Brown story I've listened to! It is one of those rare audible 'finds' that you simply can't put down!!! Full of twist and turns, while somewhat predictable, when it finally comes down, there are still plenty of surprises, right to the very end! This reader does a fantastic job on this book, and I'm convinced that the audible version is much more engaging than the actual 'read'! It would make a fantastic movie!
Sandra Brown has done a terrific job with this book. But the real pleasure here is listening to the reader. He brings the characters to life and infuses all with a personality and dimension that takes this book to an even higher level of enjoyability.
I enjoyed the plot (even though I saw almost everything coming), but the explicit and graphic sex turned me OFF. It was totally unnecessary. If I wanted to read graphic porn I go to an adult store. With a book you can turn the pages to avoid all the graphic sexual descriptions, with an audio player you're stuck with it because you don't know when it ends. None of the "porn" added to the story at all. I was disappointed.
It was somewhat predictable, but then it takes a surprise turn. I must admit that the characters become very real. You love them or you hate them. I couldn't put it down, waiting for the next turn and twist. Loved it.
The book kept me wanting to hear more. In a pace that kept my attention, yet not forcing it, the book moved through the story; unraffling the stories of the lives of the people envolved. It's a good read.
I listen to books while doing housework. The more interesting the book, the more housework gets done!
What a waste of money. 1 hr and 22 minutes into this book I have abandoned it. Didn't I listen to the sample before I bought it? Of course.
But the book starts off well. The prologue is the submission that captures Maris' attention. And yes, it is well written and I would certainly want to follow the progress from that book.
However, once we start on the publisher's story, it all falls apart. The narrator becomes lifeless, probably because the story does too.
I came back and reread the blurb to find out why I had saddled myself with this millstone. I can see why it attracted my attention. And alas, I can see where the story is going to go.
The characters ARE thin and transparent. The publishing plot is thin and unbelievable. And quite frankly, I don't care what happens next. In fact, I'm probably better off not knowing.
So I'm taking this book off my mp3 player right now. Let's hope for better luck in my next choice.
This is one of the better Sandra Brown books. It didn't lag or become too predictable till the last quarter of the story. I feel you get your credit's worth with this one. Great summer listening if your on a road trip or laying in the sun at the beach or on the treadmill where I am supposed to be right now.
I disagree with reviews on the Narrator. This book was slow to start, but once it got moving it held your attention and kept you wanting to keep coming back. The best I've listened to yet.
