This is a little bit dense for a nine year old, but twelve and thirteen year old's will love it. I, as an adult love it. It is a light jaunt into a cleverly crafted world. It is definitely worth your money.
I am always grateful when I find a book that entertains both my grandson and myself. Eoin Colfer has a great many books that fit that bill and Artemis Fowl is my favorite of them. When you would like to relax and fall asleep with silver words paving the way, Nathaniel Parker is a good choice for a narrator. This is a book I was able to listen to several times. Enjoy! Nan
a great tale to wet the appetite for the whole series. So many characters that sweep you away and warm your heart.
After reading all of the Harry Potter Books and finishing all the Narnian books through Audible I needed a new book to read. I stumbled upon Artemis Fowl and at first I didn't know what to think of this snobby 12 year old know it all genius. Honestly I didn't like him and the whole fairy and criminal thing threw me off, but I invested my credit and figure I'd listen to it. I am so happy I did and I can't stop listening to the series. I love how you never really know what is going to happen next or what tricks Artemis has up his sleeves. You want to know how he gets himself out of tough situations with his ingenious solutions. I love all of the series and I always look forward to hear more of Foley, Holley, Root, Artemis, Butler, and my favorite character of them all Mulch Diggums.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and the narration is some of the best I’ve heard along with the Happy Potters books. Though clearly a young reader’s book, I still loved it being a 25 year old guy. I couldn’t buy the following stories fast enough, even had to buy a few before I had more credits available. I have enjoyed many books in this genre including the Harry Potter books, His Dark Materials (Golden Compass, Subtle Knife, and the Amber Spyglass), as well as the Percy Jackson saga. I feel this ranks right up there with the aforementioned stories and would fervently advise anyone who enjoyed those stories to listen to these :-]
I've listened to the entire series and loved the experience. I felt myself completely transported to another world. The action is super exciting and the characters are unforgettable. The narration is perfect. It is very different from the Harry Potter books but if you are an adult (like me) who enjoy well-written young adult books, you will enjoy the fun and the originality of this series. I didn't reallly like Artemis Fowl after the first book... I wasn't sure if I wanted to read the second one but I'm glad I continued because seeing Artemis develop as a character is what made me truly love the series. I often laughed out loud listening to the books and even cried a few times.
Well written with lots of humor! A great listen on our 9 hour driving vacation.
This was a good listen for the family on an automobile trip. The kids were tiring of the excesses of the Harry Potter books. This was much more enjoyable (especially than the later HP books.) My kids went on to read more in this series.
I have read this one with both of my boys, and highly recommend it. The most refreshing thing about the Fowl series is the edgy content that contrasts to the too-sweet style of Harry Potter. Artemis and his LEP friends are protagonists with their own dark side, and it makes them more interesting for older children. This guilty pleasure of the storyline pulled us through the complex plot and kept us reading and anticipating each next episode.
After finishing the Harry Potter audiobook series (with the fantastic narration by Jim Dale), I was hoping to find anything as similarly engaging. While this series is not as deep or complex, its certainly fun, exciting and highly entertaining. The narration by Nathaniel Parker is outstanding. I was hooked into Mr. Colfer’s world and felt a pang when the 5th audiobook ended. However, unlike the HP series, there is more still more Artemis Fowl to come, and I greatly look forward to the forthcoming 6th installment!
