I like to listen to adventure stories and funny stories. I have a real preference for travel tales and sometimes even enjoy a good mystery. I love fiction, but also like to learn facts. I like all kinds of stories. Follow me, if you do too!
Probably not, unless I knew for sure that they liked "hard-core" war stories - most of my friends don't. I thought the story would have been better if it were more cohesive. It was really broken up into small vignettes with inconsistent characters.
I really liked learning more about this war which occurred just shortly before I came into the world. It really was a precursor to "that other war" in Asia, but less often discussed. Our soldiers are brave and that alone makes the story worth-while.
It moved me to know how extreme the weather conditions were and how brave our soldiers were to fight under these conditions.
If you like war stories - it's a good one!
Honor, Courage, Exemplary
Every time the author cites the temperature. Just surviving in that cold was test enough, but to do so facing overwhelming communist forces continually on the attack is something that should make all of us proud.
Prichard is always a fabulous reader.
Audible books are the perfect companion for my 4 mile morning walk!
I'll admit that I was in tears by the end of this book. A great story of human perseverence against pretty tough odds. Like most books, you may not need to listen to this at normal speed. 1.5 speed worked well for me for the material.
Top 1/3. It is a great telling of Marines in combat. As a Marine, I am probably partial to these kind of stories.
Overall, the combat and the conditions are told with detail enough to make you a little cold and a little nervous while you listen.
Any of the moments when wounded men, that many would say should have been evacuated (but couldn't be) would be bandaged up enough to continue to fight for their brothers.
No, but he does a great job of adding tension and emphasis when needed.
True Tale of the Frozen Chosin
Highly recommend this book to anyone interested in understanding what makes Marines tick.
Also, a great title from the Marine Corps Professional Reading List. Recommended for Staff Sergeant, 1st Lieutenant, and CWO3.
I found this book to be interesting. I don't thonk people realize the hardships soldiers of other wars faced. WWll seems to be the only focus most of the time.
brilliant story , well narrated , worth a credit, agree with others that a little confusing at times wih location but doesnt disract too much from story.
Excellent story. Can't imagine what those men went through under the freezing conditions they faced with the little training and poor equipment. Inspiring how our country men could hold on and overcome in the face of certain defeat.
This is a tale of unbelievable hardship and courage. The facts of what these guys did in extremely cold weather is mind blowing. As you listen, you can almost not believe that it actually happened, but it did! Good historical war story.
The authors pull you into the foxholes of Fox Company Marines from the first page as you live through the brutal up-close battle for life they endured during a few long days and nights in this glimpse of the Korean War. Excellently crafted and narrated, the story switches from individual actions of individual Marines during the fight in a way that leaves the reader feeling as if you had been there alongside. A very worthwhile read.
