ive really enjoyed some of Courtney's books -some have been overly graphic and too much rape, but this end book was a horrid ending to this trilogy. I sat at the end of it verbally , thinking no way he couldn't just end it like that. No follow through with have of a storyline he had already started. IT felt rushed and as if he was just tired of writing.
Less time with the war parts and just dropping all the storyline in Australia, he left all the rest just hanging. Courtney seems obssesesed with war and violence.
This is the first review I have written on Audiobooks and if I carry on listening to Humphrey Bouwer narrating Bryce Courtney's books, probably wont be the last. After more than 60 hours of listening to the saga of the Solomon's and all, I am truly sad to have to say goodbye to them all. They have almost become a part of my life as my job entails me travelling around in South Africa. Very saddened by the ending but I suppose in a way it was to be expected. Thank you both for the fantastic entertainment you provide.
I thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy and devoured all 3 books consecutively. Humphrey Bower is an extremely impressive narrator. The characters he creates are charming and I am simply impressed at how he brings the tale alive.
i love reading historical novels, and family sagas. I'm a nurse manager, and a marriage celebrant and adore my family!!!
Loved the story, loved the accents. I couldn't stop listening to it. I enjoyed the weaving of the story between Australian and New Zealand and in particular the history of the Gallipoli invasion. A great read/listen!!
