the reader was a great 'character'. I love horses and could relate to her attachment, and her loss of Lay Me Down. Her herd is such a fun and relatable group and each of their personalities shines through the reader's voice.
Soul of a Horse is another true encounter that is as heartwarming and insightful as this into these gorgeous and often times difficult creatures. Makes you want one if you don't have one (or two or three or...) yet.
Georgia sure comes to life! Pushy Diva :) the skittish one reminds me a bit of my timid rescued appaloosa Cherokee so I could relate to Susan and him (cant remember his name, not Hotshot). and her first pony as a kid reminded me of our mini Pearl. Attitude galore.
may read her "sequel" though doubt i'll get the one about her experiences pre-Lay Me since she covers some of that already in this one.
Yes, good story line. Will make you cry though.
Can't tell because it would ruin the story for you if I told you.
The book came to life with the struggle and victory of the lead character. The reader totally pulled me into all the emotions and goodness of the story. I laughed and cried. Good kind of a cry though. Enjoyable laugh too.
I could have listened to it all at once , but since I listen while I sew or cook I had to go on to other things.
If you love horses and also want to learn worthwhile life lessons, this is a book you will enjoy.
Yes because it was so real and I was sucked into the story from the very beginning.
I loved the connection this troubled woman had to the troubled horse and how close they became.
I can't pick a single one.
OMG when it was Lay Me Down's last day. I cried so hard and felt like I was there holding her head in my lap as well.
It's a wonderful book for everyone who has ever loved horses.
PLOT: neglected horse and her foal are adopted by Susan Richards who's own life is in turmoil.
Susan Richards is an alchoholic and divorced and her own life in the toilet~ but finds joy in her horses. When a herd of VERY neglected horses has her in line to adopt one. Soon a pitiful mare and her foal go to live with Susan. The mare Lay Me Down~ has pneunomia and eye infections. Soon the horse becomes the focus of recovery for both SUSAN and HORSE~ this is a FIRST RATE STORY. I was first drawn into the horse tale but soon was even more drawn to Susan and her group of friends who became her support in the horse recovery. This is a very good story well written by Susan Richards who is a social worker with a BA in English. Her view of life from the bottom of a bottle and former party life style has some *VERY* interesting reflections of her life. This is a tear jerker at times and has a good story of life and change for both people and the animals who own and love them. LORNA RAVER IS AN EXCELLENT reader. I give this 5 STARS for STORY AND 5 STARS FOR READER AND 5 STARS FOR OVER ALL story of recovery for all those involved. VERY good story and you will want to hear it all in one session.
I don't know. I didn't read the print version. I buy these because I love good story, but have a 92 acre farm, 42 animals and a full time job by myself. I can't sit with a book, but I surely can mow something with one read to me.
Snowman was GREAT too, because both show you that your background doesn't have to dictate who you are. You have the power to be better than that.
She was amazing.
I cried, knowing her pain. I come from a disfunctional family, but who doesn't, and I lost my horse Star,so I knew her pain. If Christ is coming back on one, then they must be in heaven. I told Star to wait at the gate and we'd go for a ride when I get there. LayMeDown and Star both had most likely been mistreated, but Star chose to trust me and every morning I miss going out and not hearing his morning Hohoho... Ya got any Sweet Feed, Mom?
It was a wonderful book and I'm grateful the Author finally followed her dream, to write a book.
Touching , Engaging & Enjoyable,
How the story inter-twined characters, history and the present
Lorna created a depth of feeling to the characters
It envoked passions that outraged, sadened and uplifted the spirit
I downloaded this one to listen with my sister, who is a horse lover and a great equestrian. I really didn't think it would hold my interest but I was surprisingly mistaken. Chosen by a Horse ia truly a captivating story that made me laugh and cry and one that stays with you for a long time after the read. Most certainly worth the download.
I have never in all my life imagined such a book. It's so true, horse owners, riders and all horse lovers know what it is to loose a beloved horse. It's beautifully written, heartfelt and true; all people that have lived with horses all their lives know what loosing one is. Please read, and help save those poor horses that are starved, used for unethical medications,
like Premarin and help. We can all do a lot to make their lives happier.
I wished I had bought this book to READ, rather than LISTEN. The premise of the book sounded great, but the author went on and on about her childhood, bad relationships, until it really got tiresome. I would have skipped pages and pages, but couldn't with the audio format. The book was written by a woman supposed to be in her 40's, but read by someone who sounded in her 60's. Can't wait until it's over.
