this book helped me to see how much I sometimes take God's love for granted. not in condemning manner but a reminder of what I don't deserve.
I am also grateful for the challenge and grace to work out my salvation with fear and trembling every day
Loved this book! It has it all, drama, romance, mystery, and a wonderful message. I really enjoyed it. I am ready to listen to another Francine Rivers book.
Turned Up 4 God
I haven't finished this book yet and I can't stop talking about how good it is!! My granddaughter is hooked whenever I play it in the car and we arrive at our destination, she says awww, I wanted to know what happens next!
All business but contemporary fun!
The book really surprised me. The author's heavy religious view almost stopped me from listening it but I am glad I did so. It was beautifully written, did an excellent job transporting you to that era by describing the people of that day and age without stereotypes. This was a pure love story, if there is such a thing. The damaged heroine is saved by the devout Christian man who takes her under his wing and shows her what true love and commitment really are.
My main issue with this book IS really difficult to overcome though, despite the nice elements mentioned above: the hero has a love at first sight moment which is ok. His persistence to get her as his wife though, despite all odds and her refusal is attributed to one divine power. He even hears God telling him to pursue her. And throughout the book, no matter what she does to push him away, he persists because she is the "chosen" one. That for me really detracted from the purity of their love.
Someone had recommended the book re: Mary, Jesus' mother, by this author. When I saw that it was a series I decided to start with Book 1. I had two credits so I bought the first two books. However, since this book, which is based on Hosea, brought out more of the evil and utter degradation instead of Gods redemption of Israel, and since the second book in this series is re: Rahab the harlot, I am hesitant to try to listen to it. I may possibly consider giving it a chance since I've already paid for it, but if it has as much of the sexually explicit degrading undertones re: the bowels of humanity, the evil inflicted on one other, and supposedly biblical but twisted story lines, I will NOT finish listening to it and will NOT buy another and will certainly NOT recommend any of Ms. Rivers books to anyone else.
I wish I had started with the book re: Mary because now I am extremely hesitant to take a chance on having any garbage like this in my mind re: Mary and Joseph and possibly their families and friends. Who knows what she will dare write about them with such detailed degrading description as this book regarding Hosea. The title Redeeming Love is very misleading. It should focus on the love and redemption of Christ, not all the gory details of what someone is redeemed from. Were details of child prostitution and incest and abuse really necessary??? As it stands now, I feel like I would just be waiting for the writer to bring in some garbage storyline about them and somehow smear their names. VERY leery about listening to any more of this authors books.
Only by this author.
Sometimes you can't tell which character is speaking w/o knowing the name, and several times you can hear her swallowing, which is disgusting.
Only Angel's salvation and resultant change of lifestyle, the rest borders on smut. And Miriam and Paul??? You've got to be kidding. A teenage girl going to an experienced worldly man who is obviously NOT living for Christ, and insisting she is going to move in with him, and then enticing him with lust and saying she just "knows" he loves her and she loves him and he has to marry her first before they can have sex, and she's already gotten the approval of her parents and her father is going to marry them on the spot, and all of this is supposedly based on the Biblical story of Ruth and Boaz???
Extreme references to child abuse and prostitution and degradation, alcohol, saloons, murder, etc. STRONGLY advise that young people NOT listen to this.
The book of Hosea in the Bible is about the redeeming love of God toward Israel even when Israel turned away from Him and to other gods. It is NOT about a man/woman relationship and it has no detailed descriptions of sex. God uses the picture of adultery because that is betrayal and that is how we treat God, turning to everything in the world instead of turning to Him. If this book "Redeeming Love" is supposed to be a picture of that, it fails miserably with all the sexual undertones, descriptions of abuse and degradation and humiliation, and twisting of Biblical truths, i.e. Ruth and Boaz.
Now that I've written this whole review, I don't think I will even attempt to listen to the second book in this series or any other by this author, and I am going to delete them from my player. Lesson to me to only buy and download one book at a time, especially when listening to that author for the first time. Very disappointed that this author is even in the Christian Fiction genre; I will certainly be warning others.
I love the story. It was well told and well read. I loved the complex characters and the deep commitment Michael has to God. He held strong to his faith and reminded me of the value of honesty, forgiveness and patience.
Love her performance. Her voice was great. Her inflections and tones perfect.
I would take Michael out to dinner to understand how his faith grew to be so rock solid. I would ask him how to hear God the way he was able to.
How many times we fall and God is there to forgive us.
Michael was my favorite character because he followed the teachings of God's forgiveness.
Ms. Forbes made me feel like I was there in person, she made the story come alive!
Yes I was up to the wee hours because I couldn't put it down.
I feel Ms. Rivers was inspired by the Holy Spirit to bring the book of Hosea in terms that became so clear to the reader. I had read Hosea before but had never seen it in this light.
Thank you Ms. Rivers!
This was a great inspiration. I was doing the Daniels fast and wanted to listen to something inspirational and something that would keep my attention. This audiobook talkes about faith. Hosea kept believing and trusting in Gods word without understanding or seeing his happiness come to past. You will also see how lifes challenges could make a person bitter and not believe you are worthy of anything good. It will show you what he will do for the smallest believer.
Still married to the sweetest man alive. Have 3 beautiful grandchildren with one on the way!
This was a very good story, well written and faith building. My only problem with it, the narrator was bad. She read with no feelings and very little passion. If you can endure that and make it to the end of the story, it is well worth the credit!
